lappet Weaving

Weaving: Weaving is a method of fabric production in
which two distinct sets of yarn are interlaced at right angles
tofromafabricorcloth.

Lappet Weaving: lappet weaving is a kind of embroidery
in which various effects and patterns are produced along
withtheground fabric

Features of lappet weaving
• The lappet weave is used to superimpose a small
design on the surface of a fabric during woven.
• In the lappet weave the design is stitched into
the fabric by needles.
• The lappet weave is very similar to embroidery.
• This weave is employed on a variety of fabric
where novelty pattern are desired.

Workingprinciple:Lappetpatterncontainextra warpyarnswovenintoa
basefabricbymeansof aframeorrack fastened totheloomnearthereed (setin
frontofthereed).Longneedlesarecarriedinthe frame,andtheyarntobeusedin
makingthedesignarethreadedthroughtheneedles.Whentherackislowered,the
needlesarepressedtothebottomoftheshedandheldin positionwhileapickislaid.
Therackisthenraised,andthepickisbeatenintothecloth. Nexttherackisshifted
sidewaystoanewlocation,andthesameactionisrepeated. Eachtimetheframeor
rackmovessideways, itcarriestheyarnintheneedlesacrossthesurfaceofthefabric
andcreatesarowofthepattern.Iflongfloatsareformedonbackofthefabric,they
maybetrimmed,iftheyareshottheyusuallyleftalone.

Advantage
• The lappet weave is
considered strong &
durable.
• If short floats are formed
on the back of fabric
then pattern is durable.
• Can make beautiful
design.
Disadvantage
• Comparatively expansive.
• Currently small amount of
lappet fabric is produced.
• If long floats are formed on
the back of the fabric I
would causes hairiness.
