Encryption-Decryption Challenge: Caesar Cipher - About me!
1. Encryption-Decryption Challenge
Caesar Cipher: About me!
In this activity, you are going to discover Caesar Cipher that you
can use to send secret messages to your friends!
Definitions
Cryptography is a method of protecting information and
communications using codes, so that only those for whom the
information is intended can read and process it.
Encryption is the process of using an algorithm to transform
plain text into cypher text to ensure that sensitive data remains
unreadable to unauthorized users.
Decryption is the process of transforming data that has been
rendered unreadable through encryption back to its
unencrypted form.
In cryptography, a Caesar Cipher, is one of the simplest and most
widely known encryption techniques. It is a type of substitution
cipher in which each letter in the plaintext is replaced by a letter
some fixed number of positions down the alphabet. For
example, with a left shift of 3, D would be replaced by A, E would
become B, and so on. The method is named after Julius Caesar,
who used it in his private correspondence.
Now, we are ready for the Challenge. First, each student will
write a paragraph about himself/herself. Then, he/she will
encrypt it using Caesar Cipher cycles of the next page and upload
the code on the Padlet. Continuously, he/she will try to decrypt
another student secret message.
Enjoy the activity!
