10. Georgia joined with 47 other states well over a
year ago to develop a set of core standards for
K-12 in English language arts and mathematics.
On June 2, the Common Core State Standards
were released. These standards provide a
consistent framework to prepare students for
success in college and/or the 21st century
workplace. These standards represent a
common sense next step from the Georgia
Performance Standards. The Georgia State
Board of Education adopted the CCGPS on July
8, 2010.

regardless of whether they decide to go to
school at Georgia Tech or UCLA, or find a job
in Georgia, Maine or Indiana

READ each and every night and write about

Book reports over chapter books are due every other
Friday, first book report is due August 24, 2012
Monthly calendar with writing prompts and due
dates will be sent home (first one was sent home on
August 17th)
Projects will be mostly completed in class, there will
be several smaller projects to be completed at home.
All projects will meet CCGPS
25. Math: To build fluency in the multiplication
and division facts, students are to practice their
multiplication/division fact families each night.
Homework in math for the this year will be
reversed- it will be mostly done in class!
Students will study/review/discuss their math
vocabulary with their parent/guardian .
The math calendar for September will be sent
home on August 29th, tasks and projects will
be included.
Math Journals will be kept in the classroom
