2. Overview
This article is about exploring the education via multimedia technology . Interactive
multimedia in a complex world of constant change, education cannot be something that one
acquire during youth to serve for an entire lifetime . Day after day, the world technology has
become more powerful and it will be introduced in education to overcome the hardest in once
situation. It creating a new form of electronic by enhance the online learning experienced by
presenting content in combination of audio , video , graphics , and text in various format to
address a range student learning styles. The advent of multimedia and multimedia
technologies has changed the way educators teach and students learn. With multimedia, the
communication of the information can be done in a more effective manner and it can be an
effective instructional medium for delivering information.
Although multimedia have been technically feasible for so many years only recently
has it because a major focus for commercial development . Presenting course materials
through multimedia engages students in ways that are not possible with a textbook alone.
There are a lot of advantages by using multimedia as a toll of learning. For example
student receive training when and where they need it. This is save a lot more time and
energy to do some work. Other than that, students can adjourn training at any point in the
lesson and return to it letter. Besides that , the training is highly effectives because it is based
on the most powerful principal of individualization learning . A similar revolution is underway
in training aimed at upgrading employee skills for more complex , changing jobs . According
to Nancy Kenworthy at the international training company “multimedia is the preferred
method of training.
3. Description of methodology
The tool system ( knowledge-based system )
To make electronics education a reality , „knowledge-based systems will be essential.
Known as computer program containing a body of knowledge and heuristic (rules based on
the experienced of an expert) that assist in understanding some field of study . It also
developing rapidly , and in a decade so they use in elementary and secondary school.
Science , geography , history have been introduced by interactive videodisc to give a view
like reality world. It could be link videodisc technology to enhance classroom instruction by
tutoring students. The multimedia courseware can also be packaged on the CD-ROM and
delivered in a networked classroom leading to a teacher-centered mode where the
courseware is opened on their PCs and the students follow the teacher‟s lecture on their
PCs.Supposedly intelligent tutoring system should become common in school soon after the
year 2000 as a tool of teaching and learning. With multimedia, the teacher is
now the director of the knowledge and can use the various combinations of media elements
to create interactive educational content. The result is a stimulating environment for learning
and retaining the information delivered.
Here is some content that might be shared of coming changed in education by
E.Halal and J.Liebowitz. Some subject will be conducted electronic by using local area
network (LAN) or wifi . This can be started for student at the university to integrate many
aspect of college life that have been long segregated in separate building . Other than that ,
electronic access to library catalogue will eliminate the need for some references space . So
that non residential students will be able to attend lectures and use libraries from distance
locations. Moreover , This multimedia material can be used to foster team-processing and
active learning as with collaborative and cooperative methods. This encourages higher- level
learning, increases comprehension and retention rates, and focuses on the total
development of the student in self-accessed and self-directed learning. In the mixed mode,
the teacher has the flexibility to incorporate the two teachingand learning approaches
whenever they deem them useful, to increase and enhance their students‟ learning
processes .
4. Distance learning
Interactive multimedia and knowledge-based system offer great promise for
conducting education over long distance . personal computers , educational compact disc ,
online data based and network will make home schooling increasingly effective. Distance
education is a brave new world: dynamic, engaging, evolving, and growing. Individuals can
study from virtually anywhere without having to physically relocate to attend a college or
university. The field of visual impairments has been coping with a critical shortage of
teachers, funding, and training for several decades (Mason, Davidson, & McNerney, 2000).
Distance education has evolved from the correspondence course of the past to an interactive
virtual classroom where teacher and student roles are being redefined (Ferrell, 2000). The
instructor no longer stands in front of the class lecturing but is now the designer of a learning
environment. The student‟s role has changed from that of a passive learner sitting in the
classroom to that of an active seeker of information. The emphasis has shifted from the
teacher teaching to the student learning.
These technology also fit in nicely with the rapid emergence of collaborative learning
and group problem solving . The benificiaries will include not simply those children whose
parents opt for years round home schooling , but also those who are homebound due to
illness or bad weather. The technolofies can also be used to augment normal school
education somewhat like homework assignment .
Distance education presents many challenges to students and instructors. Instructors
must adjust to a changing role in a classroom transformed from the physical to the virtual.
Although instructors can no longer rely on traditional methods of instruction to engage and
sustain students‟ attention, the isolation that students feel in the virtual classroom is real and
can affect their learning negatively. Multimedia, in conjunction with traditional teaching
materials, enhances the educational experience for online students by offering a variety of
ways in which to learn and interact with content. Distance learning bears little resemblance
to the correspondence school of a century ago , except that students can participate in
education programs from anywhere in the world.
5. Evaluation
Many people are rightly concerned that electronically mediated education will lack the
human touch that is essential for true understanding . According to Linda Pratt , professor of
English at the university of Nebraska “there‟s no substitute for that immediate dialogue that
occurs in a classroom . On the one hand , anyone has participate in computer conferencing
or other interactive multimedia knows that the intensity of relationship can be astounding .
Even religious services are now commonly held over computer bulletin boards and
participate usually find their experienced more profoundly spiritual that services in a church
or temple .
In my opinion , multiple method evaluation , which include both quantitative and
qualitative methodology ,would provide a broader view. Future development are almost
certain to surprise us to some extent . However a few major features about the future of
education are fairly clearer . Today‟s wave of interest in education “choice” is rolling on in
public school because the entrepreneurial features of a market system are needed to provide
the flexibility required by the information age.
Besides that , there is a remarkable growth in the interest and use of multimedia
programmes besides the growth in skill in developing multimedia programmes. There is an
ocean of content on the Internet, developed without really worrying about the quality of it. To
design and develop a quality program, we must spend some time to understand the qualities
of a good multimedia program and a website. As we discuss the evaluation of multimedia
programmes below, we shall limit our discussion to the educational software, because the
objective of evaluation and the process of evaluation of various multimedia programmes shall
vary substantially.
A major tenet of multimedia education is the acceptance of the fact that no single
method or medium is appropriate and perfect for all individuals. Every individual has
his/her own preferred methods of information reception and processing. Evaluation of
multimedia software cannot be and should not be a terminal or one time activity. It has to an
on-going and continuous process.
6. Discussion of implications
Developments in technology is also an important issue. As a new technology comes
up and people start using it, any programme not providing such a facility would not be
appreciated. To keep a programme floating and popular new options and facilities
need to be incorporated. Sometimes, some of the basic design concepts and the
architecture of these older programmes may well appear to have been superceded
by recent developments. Users who may be familiar with the features that are being
replaced, and so, replacing them may demand users to learn new features and
unlearn the old ones. New features do not always result in improved functionality. For
the sake of simplicity and elegance of design, older features could be resuscitated.
In my opinion , there is little doubt that the changing role of education is currenly
being reinforced with the integration of multimedia technologies. This has led to a new
paradigm in education and the evolution of new concepts in content development and a
number of innovative methods in which information can be communicated to the learners.
This new learning environment will undoubtedly influence the way teachers teach and
students learn.
Moreover , live in a urban devolopement should be give some approaches to this
telelearning methods for enhance the way of teaching and learning . The key to unlocking the
new possibilities is to envision modern education as an omnipresent activity. As the
technology for acquiring and distributing knowledge permeates home , work , and all other
locations , all social functions should be integrated into a seamless web of learning . It give
some advanteges to people who closed with multimedia rather than holiding a thick text
book. Books unlimited in the world of multimedia technology so they can read anywhere ,
anytime and everywhere they like .
