Rationale

to available resources at any time in their lives…”

 ODS plays a key role in supporting the take-up and use of digital
educational resources in schools and revolutionises communities of
practice in eLearning

• An accelerator of the sharing, adoption, and usage of existing
educational content base.
• It involves school communities in innovative teaching and learning
practices
• It will promote community building between numerous schools of
Europe and empower them to use, share and exploit unique
resources.
• To address the challenge of modernizing school education by
engaging teachers, students, parents and policymakers

Outcomes
 Documented guidelines for the design and implementation
of effective resource-based educational activities.
 A large community of schools communities in EU.
 Provision of a large collection of unique resources from
advanced educational repositories.
 A socially-empowered multilingual portal which will facilitate
the discovery, enable to use and provide monitored-for-
impact use of digital materials.

based on?

Application Profile
• An application profile is a set of metadata elements,
policies, and guidelines defined for a particular application.
(Wikipedia)
• The elements may be from one or more element sets, thus
allowing a given application to meet its functional
requirements by using metadata from several element sets
including locally defined sets.
• An application profile is not complete without
documentation that defines the policies and best practices
appropriate to the application

• Provide your metadata according to the ODS AP
– Do you have metadata?Then create your XSLT file
– If you are completely compliant to IEEE LOM, then no problem
• Provide a OAI-PMH target for us to harvest your repository
– Do you have the OAI-PMH target?Then give us your target address
• Let us know to harvest you
– The metadata would be open and free to use
• VISH repository is joined to the ODS
– VISH becomes as a member of big ODS family
– ODS harvests one more high quality learning repository

• Search for Educational Resources: any user (registered or not) can access the
Educational Content that is (a) harvested by external repositories and (b)
created by the members of the Communities
• Search for Communities: the registered and non-registered ODS portal users
can search the ODS Communities allowing them to access their lightweight
Portals in order to see how these are organized and gives them the ability to
“Join” the ones they select.
• Search for Portal users: the ODS portal users are available through a specific
page to the Portal providing the possibilities of: viewing their public profiles
and make connections with them
