Records and 90th Birthday of Legendary Engineer Rudy Van
Gelder!
A short but intensely cool set from a formidable quintet led by Miles
Davis and featuring Teddy Charles on vibes, Elvin Jones on drums,
Charles Mingus on double bass, and Britt Woodman on trombone.
Recorded in 1955 by legendary engineer Rudy Van Gelder at his
studio in Hackensack, NJ, Blue Moods is the epitome of ’50s cool
jazz. A laid-back, introspective set, the tracks ebb and blow as
Davis’ trademark mellow-tone weaves deftly through Charles’ vibe
chording, which drifts across the sonic pallet like harmonic clouds.
An absolute must-have for fans of the cool jazz genre, Blue Moods
is ice cold – an absolute treasure on vinyl.

Orbital Orbital (Green Album) on 180g 2LP Since their landmark
debut track “Chime” in 1989, Orbital have played an integral part in
changing the face of dance music. Not only did the Hartnoll brothers
take dance into the live arena but also pushed the concept of the
dance album beyond a mere collection of singles, adding the
longevity and credibility needed to boost a genre that many
perceived as little more than a short-lived phenomena. In the
process the duo paved a path for such subsequent artists as
Basement Jaxx and The Chemical Brothers. The success of
“Chime” led to a deal with FFRR Records who released Orbital’s
Kratwerk-inspired first self-titled album aka the Green Album in
1991 and their second eponymous effort aka the Brown Album in
1993. Both albums will be reissued as 180g 2LP-sets in 2015.

5. TWO SOUGHT-AFTER HANS ZIMMER
SOUNDTRACKS GET REISSUED ON VINYL
With the constant reissues of classic albums that have been out-of-
print on vinyl for years, two particular film scores by beloved
composer Hans Zimmer will finally get such treatment very soon.
Both just happen to be some of the most beloved film scores in
recent years — the Christopher Nolan masterpieces Inception and
The Dark Knight.
The soundtrack to Inception was a collaborative effort between
Zimmer and celebrated former guitarist of The Smiths, Johnny Marr.
The Dark Knight is the second in a trilogy of Batman films by
inventive filmmaker Nolan, where original pressing copies have
gone for up to US$300. Inception, on the other hand, With the
reissues impending, it appears that current available copies on
Discogs have lowered to match the market.

Riot !n Magenta’s journey could be said to be one of sonic alchemy.
Known for their distinctive soulful melodies lined with edgy, rhythmic
beats, the quintet crystallizes the diverse musical elements of
electronica, trip-hop and soul into smooth, synth driven tracks.
Weaving together the powerhouse vocals of Eugenia Yip with the
mellow synths of Hayashida Ken, and the tight, precise rhythms of
Khairyl Hashim (guitar), Sulaiman Supian (bass) and Ritz Ang
(drums), the quintet from Singapore released their debut EP,
R3B007, at Esplanade Recital Studio in 2013.

life in late-2008 and borne out of the magical brew of life, love and
music, the sons are rooted by the blues and rock’n’roll, and
grounded by the salty banks of the Kallang River.
To date, the Sons have packed out many major venues in
Singapore including The Esplanade Recital Studio and Concert
Hall, Timbre (Substation), Home Club, Zouk, BluJaz, TAB and
*SCAPE and have played at many significant musical events
including Baybeats 2011, Fred Perry Subculture Night, REV UP @
Orchard as well as opening for Irish band, Two Door Cinema Club.
