Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths, while prostate cancer and breast cancer will account for the highest percentage of new cancer cases among men and women respectively. Tobacco use is responsible for at least 87% of lung cancer deaths.

• An estimated 238,590 cases of
prostate cancer will occur in

• About 60% of all prostate

and 97% occur in men 50 and
older.

discovered in the local or
regional stages, for which the 5-
year relative survival rate

6. A Closer Look at Breast Cancer
• In addition to an estimated
232,340 new cases of breast
cancer among women in 2013,
an estimated 2,240 cases are
expected in men.
• Steady declines in breast
cancer mortality among
women since 1989 have been
attributed to a combination of
early detection and
improvements in treatment.
• The 5-year relative survival rate
for female invasive breast
cancer patients has improved
from 75% in the mid-1970s to
90% today.

cases of lung cancer are
