Moving the construction sector to zero material waste
The construction industry squanders materials, consuming
60% of all material flows and contributing to 30% of the waste
stream in the United States (EPA). This overconsumption is
fueled by the construction-renovation-demolition (CRD) cycle
and leads to the loss of valuable virgin resources and
unacceptable levels of waste. Until recently it was assumed
these practices were the cost of doing business.
DIRTT (DOING IT RIGHT THIS TIME)
Moving the construction sector to zero material waste
DIRTT (Doing It Right This Time) maximizes material
conservation through a patented, prefabricated and modular
assembly for adaptable and customizable building interiors.
DIRTT and ICE create rapid, precise initial construction and
avoid the destructive cycle of demolition. Smart technology
and a distributed manufacturing strategy ensure the solution’s
global success.
The company focuses instead on Reduce-Reuse strategies.
Resilient design principles are at the heart of DIRTT
solutions, which are designed for disassembly and reuse by
standardizing all connector components. DIRTT walls can be
reconfigured and reused within the space, instead of
discarded and replaced. This design shift decreases material
demands and environmental impacts while still meeting
customers’ changing needs.
