1. First Conditional

2. • It is a structure to talk
about:
• Future events
• Events that are likely to
happen
(They are probable/possible)
The first conditional is
formed by 2 clauses (parts
of sentences)

3. • Condition
• If I study hard,
• Result
I will pass the test.
(Main Clause)(If Clause)
IF + PRESENT SIMPLE, SUBJECT + WILL + BASE VERB

4. • Result
• I will pass the test
• Condition
if I study hard.
(Main Clause) (If Clause)
SUBJECT + WILL + BASE VERB IF + PRESENT SIMPLE

5. When the result (main clause) is
written first, NO COMMA is added
-No Comma is added in this case
I won’t go to the party if you don’t want to
Remember
The BASE VERB is
always INFINITIVE
(NOT CONJUGATED)

6. Some Examples:
Promises: If you help me, I will give you
a present.
If you don’t help me, I will
punish you.
Threats / Warnings: I will tell the police if you do
it again.
Offers: I will study with you if you
want.
Making deals: I’ll clean the kitchen if you
clean the bathroom.
