I have no idea why I uploaded this. I'm sure there was some reason for it back when I loaded it. If I'm not mistaken, this was the bibliography for the informative speech that included the slide presentation "The Visual Aid."

I can find no political references about this author. However, he has taught at numerous
prestigous universities including Yale, Harvard and Williams College. I found it
ineteresting that he has the director of the Mysitic Seaport Program at Williams College.
He's been recognized via awards from several historical societies. I could find no reason to
not trust this author's work. One of the most compelling sources of his research was
“unpublished” government records from the English government. I learned several things
from this work. First, that there was actually much more to the Boston Tea Party of 1773.
It was an actual movement that eventually lead up to the famous incident. The history I
learned about the movement revealed, as well, that there was much more to this original
tea party movement. The movement then basically complained that government was
assuming too much authority over the colonists. I also learned there were different sects
of the tea party movement that co-existed. In my speech I want appeal to patriotism by
comparing the original tea party movement to the modern tea party movement. I think the
things I mentioned in this annotation are significant enough similarities that they can grab
the interest of my audience. And I'm going to use this information in my first topic
2. because I think that would be the strongest appeal, the appeal to the foundation of the
United States. If the audience can identify with the validity of the movement over 230
years ago and they can see the similarities between that movement and today's
movement, maybe they will be more interested in what the modern tea party movement is
saying and doing.
Carty, Daniel. “Schieffer: Tea Partiers Not Just ‘A Bunch of Yahoos.’” CBSNews.com. 15 Apr.
2010. Web. Oct. 24, 2010.
Bob Schieffer has been a journalist for a long time. He’s reported straight news and
journalistic stories for many years. In general, when I see him reporting on politics, I feel
it is because CBS is running short on enough reporters to cover the particular event or
story. I don’t trust anyone 100% but in overall, I do trust Schieffer to attempt to give his
opinion as little as possible so when he does give opinion, it weighs a lot to me. Still, it is
only his opinion as to whether the Tea Party is a “force to be reckoned with.” I learned
from this article that the tea party movement consists of a lot of well-educated people. I
also learned that people that identify with the tea party movement make up 18% of the
voting public. I learned, too, that, according to the poll mentioned in the article, 3% of tea
party participants or identifiers are minorities. I plan to use information from this article a
couple of ways. First, to stress the need for the audience to get to know the tea party
movement. I also plan to use information from this article to address some of the
complaints about the tea party movement.
Taibbi, Matt. “Matt Taibbi on the Tea Party: How Corporate Interests and Republican Insiders
Built the Tea Party Monster.”RollingStone.com. Rolling Stone Magazine, 28 Sept. 2010.
Web. 23 Oct. 2010.
3. Matt Taibbi does political reporting for Rolling Stone Magazine and sports reporting for
Men’s Journal. Rolling Stone is a liberally slanted magazine and Matt Taibbi appears to
have zero expertise in the field of political science. In fact, about the only thing Matt
Taibbi seems to be an expert at is offending people and that is exactly why I wanted to
use his article. One of my audience members felt this was a “great” about-the-Tea-Party
article. It’s anything but a good article because it uses so much pejorative and derogatory
slurs that nothing Taibbi discusses can be taken seriously. Yet, this is the type of expertise
those that do not like the Tea Party or conservative ideals that such people rely on as
information about someone with different ideas. I plan to use this article to point out
some of the complaints about the tea party.
