We can’t address the issue of obesity without first taking an investigative look at our level of nutrition. You are what you eat – OK we have all heard that by now The question is what does it truly mean? – the impact of food on our health
One day my mom made this statement to me – Revelation also mama always says don’t skip break fast – she was right here too So what exactly is hunger?
wrong
Physiological – biological – basic human need
psychological
When in terms of “how often” you can think of diet as Who, what, when, where, why and how of eating – Not jenny craig, atkins, weight watchers or slim fast Key word is pattern If we are ever going to solve the obesity puzzle we have got to ask the right questions
We ask What are we having for dinner?/ Where are we going to eat? When is it lunchtime? One simple (one-word) sentence question that is a favorite of five-year olds We also have to start asking why
% people who fit the medical definition of obese – that’s over 60 million people
Not limited to morbidity or illness but mortality as well – researchers are continually improving on ways to determine obesity as cause of death
Every 5 years
The importance of moderation
Calorie is not the energy itself
Why then do carbs get such a bad rap? Primarily what I just mentioned regarding serving size and secondly b/c of what we do to them
To illustrate this point – plain baked potato
Loaded baked potato
Gimme 5 / Take 5 /High 5 – broccoli and oranges are the perfect fruit and vegetable b/c of their added benefit of vitamin c which is especially beneficial to the immune system which you want to be at top performance as a student – fall, winter, living in close quarters – dorm living
traditional
