       Number above is 493
       Have three digits
 Digit 3 is in place "sa". Value 3 indicates that there are three
      "a"
 Digit 9 is located at "twenty". Value of 9 indicates that there
      are 9 "twenty"
 Digit 4 is in place "hundred". Value of 4 indicates that there

 Rounding is used to obtain the expected value. The expected value is
the nearest value.

 A number can be rounded to a specific place value in
accordance with the following rounding rules.

 if the digit is 5 or more, add 1 to the digit in the place to be
rounded up and replace the other digits to the right of 0.

 if the digit is less than 5, keep the digit in the place to be
rounded up and replace the other digits to the right of the
 empty

ADDITION AND SUBTRACTION

ADDItion

Addition is the process of finding the sum of two or more numbers.

The steps involved in the addition of whole numbers:
i. Arrange the numbers vertically according to
the place.
i. Add the digits in descending order, a, twenty, hundred and beyond.
ii. Step work from right to left.
EXAMPLE 1 :
Solve 526 + 621 = ?

                          EXAMPLE 3 :
     526 Solve 1123 +5610 = ?
   + 621
    1147
                             1183
   EXAMPLE 2 : + 5670
Solve 5327 + 56 = ?

ADDITION AND SUBTRACTION

SUBTRACTION
• Subtraction is the process of finding the difference between the
two to find the remainder when a smaller number subtracted
  from the larger number.

• Example: subtract 3 from 9, 9 - 3 = 6.

• The steps involved in subtraction of the
whole number is the same the steps that
need to be taken to increase.
EXAMPLE 1 :
 Solve 765-123 = ?

      765 EXAMPLE 3 :
                       Solve 8534 -5730 = ?
    - 123
      642
                             8534
    EXAMPLE 2 : - 5730
Solve 4561 – 381 = ?
                             2804

MULTIPLICATION AND DIVISION
multiplication

• Multiplication is repeated addition process.
• Steps to perform multiplication:
= Round numbers sorted by the place.
= Multiply by a, twenty and beyond.
• The product of a whole number by the number
  zero is equal to zero
  (3 x 0 = 0)
• The product of a whole number of
one, corresponding to the number itself
  (9 x 1 = 9)
EXAMPLE :
Solve 318 x 34 = ?

MULTIPLICATION AND DIVISION

DIVISION

• Division is the equal sharing operations.
• When 0 divided by any number, the result is either 0 (0 ÷ 5 = 0).
• Division of a number by 0 is worthless.
• Steps to do the division:
= Round numbers arranged in conventional form.
= Begin dividing the value of the greatest.
EXAMPLE :
Solve 576 ÷ 18 = ?

PRINCIPLES OF CALCULATION

• When there is only one operation, a calculation is done
  from left to right.

• Calculation involving the operations' + ' and' - ' only' or
'x' and ' ' only, a calculation is done from left to right.

• To make calculations involving brackets and a number of
operations, operating in the proper brackets solved first,
  followed by the 'x' and ' ' and a '+' and '-'. For example,
  45 + (2 x 5) - 12 4 = 52.
