Thesis Statement For Internet Addiction
Internet Addiction
I.Speech Overview:
A.General Goal: To inform.
B.Specific Goal: By the end of speech, my audience will understand what Internet Addiction is, how
many people are affected, and the symptoms.
II.Introduction:
A.Attention Grabber: Is Internet Addiction a new mental health disorder?
B.Relevance Statement: Most teens nowadays use the Internet; the usage varies according to each
person, but I know that everyone in here is familiar with it.
C.Credibility Statement: You should care about this matter because it is good to be aware of things
that may affect you. As someone who is online on daily basis, I can accurately describe Internet
Addiction. I did around {blank}hours of research for this topic.
D.Central Idea:...show more content...
1.According to Anson Alexander who has a Bachelor of Science in international business and
information systems, an infographic that provides statistics related to Internet addiction was
published in 2012 and1 out of every 8 Americans experiences signs of internet addiction. The
infographic found that in a small study, 82% of people were found to spend more time online than
expected (Alexander, B.Sc.).
2.In 2015, a survey by the Bureau of Labor, calculated what everyone 15 and older does on a
regular basis. On an average day, more than half of them spent around 3 hours watching TV.
Individuals age 75 and over spent more of their time watching TV, reading, and relaxing than
individuals ages 15 to 19. Americans spend over an hour more per day online than doing other
activities ("American Time Use Survey").
Transition 3: Now that I have informed you about how many people are affected, I will tell you
about some of the indications.
C.People who are frequent users of technology, aren't mindful of possible symptoms that can hint
that they could be addicted.
1.Meeting the any of the five symptoms which include always thinking about what your missing
online, feeling uneasy when you offline, lying to family and friends to hide how much time you
spend on the Internet, lacking control on how much time you spend on the Internet, putting your
relationships and education on hold to spend more time online, and going online to escape reality
and problems, could be signs

II. Thesis: Human Trafficking is steadily increasing worldwide that results in slavery, violence, and
even death.
III. Preview of main points: I want to make everyone aware of what human trafficking is, how to

I. Human trafficking is modern–day slavery and involves the use of force, fraud, or coercion to
obtain some type of labor or commercial sex act (Homeland).
A. Human sex trafficking is a rapidly expanding crime that creates an urgent need to better identify
and prosecute human trafficking cases (Helton).1. People often tend to try and recruit children,
teens, and even adults by making false job offers.
2. Human trafficking can also begin with transportation. Those who use subways, taxies, or even
ride busses or catch rides with friends can result in human trafficking. B. Human Trafficking is also
done by threatening or the use of force, coercion, abduction, fraud, deception, abuse of power or
vulnerability, or giving payments or benefits to a person in control of the victim
1. Majority of those who result in human trafficking do not go willingly.
2. in fact, many who are aware often tend to result in trafficking as well. C. Not all human
trafficking is about sexual–exploitation. Some are being sold just to be slaves or to even to be killed
for enjoyment.
Transition: We may not be able to stop all human trafficking entirely but there are ways we can
prevent it.
II. Many people are trying to make everyone be aware of human trafficking and what they can do
to prevent it. A. The Nation's Health states that Health workers are working to help identify sex
trafficking victims. 1. One example is a woman from Europe. Fresh from Eastern Europe, "Anna"
arrived in the United States in response to an ad for a mail–order bride. But soon after accepting a
proposal of marriage, things fell apart. Her so–called fiancГ© – a U.S. citizen involved in a crime

Nabozny goes to middle school in a small town in Wisconsin. Because of his sexual orientation, he
is constantly being bullied and teased. The situation soon escalates to physical violence, which
almost makes him commit suicide. He even runs away several times, to try to escape the bullies at
his school. (Attention Grabber) One day Jamie is kicked and beaten so badly that he had to be
rushed to the hospital. He told no one what happened because he was terrified the bullies would act
upon their threat–, "if you tell anyone, I'll kill you". In court, when he files a lawsuit, he tells the
judge about the situation, that he had kept so private for so long. (Thesis Statement) The Bullied

B One day, Jamie is put to the test. The bullies repeatedly kicked him, leaving Nabozny with
severe wounds. By doing so, he has to be hospitalized. However, even after this incident, this
moment haunts his memories for the rest of his life. C Many others would bend under the strain
of standing up to the injustice, but Jamie didn't give in. After feeling too horribly abused, Jamie
runs away to seek asylum at a community center in the city. Jamie reaches out to people who give
him encouragement and valuable advice to seek a lawsuit against the school that had denied to
acknowledge or support Nabozny through his horrible school years. D Jamie's experience inspired
others to never give in to bullies. Jamies story not only told others of his experience, but to press

anyone who are victims of discrimination and injustice must fight to have their voices heard, and

Attention Cognitive Psychology
Research carried out on attention has mainly been associated with the selective processing of
incoming sensory information. It proposes, to some degree, our awareness of the world depends on
what we choose to focus on and not simply the stimulation received by our senses. Attention is often
linked to a filter that screens out most potential stimuli whilst allowing a select few to pass through
into our conscious awareness, however, a great deal of debate has been devoted to where the filter is
situated in the information processing chain (Martindale, 1991). Psychologists have made extensive
contributions to this subject matter in the past century. Notable examples include Donald
Broadbent's filter theory of attention (1958), which set the...show more content...
This buffer was a temporary memory store in which the unselected information could be held in
parallel for short periods of time (Styles, 2006). Information can remain in the buffer for processing
at a later stage, if this is not the case, it corrodes and is then lost (Martindale, 1991). It is only when
the "information passes through the filter into the limited capacity channel, which is a serial
processor, that it is identified" (Styles, 2006, p19). The indication is that therefore, selection from the
parallel input is made at early levels of processing, and is consequently an "early selection model"
(Styles, 2006). A number of theorist's have, however, introduced models that completely reject
Broadbent's Filter model. An example is that of Deutsch and Deutsch's attention model (Martindale,
1991).
Deutsch and Deutsch (1963) offer a model in which all stimuli are fully analysed, with the most
significant message determining the response (Eyesnck, 2010). This theory proposes a bottleneck,
as the filter is placed closer to the response end of the processing system. This model is recognized
as a late–selection model (Deutsch & Deutsch, 1963). The Deutsch and Deutsch model was later
modified by Norman (1968) who alleges that sensory inputs are processed routinely and instinctively
before we consciously know about them. Norman suggests that no signal is filtered out but all are
processed to the point of activating the stored

Many times an over zealous government takes actions that cannot be justified. A good example of
this is the Ruby Ridge Incident, where a mans wife and son were killed over a minor firearm
offense. Some States have enacted their own laws. Florida has allowed its citizens to carry a
concealed weapon. Since this law was enacted the murder rate has dropped by 29%. Over the same
period of time the nationwide murder rate increased by 11%. This clearly shows that guns in the
hands of law–abiding citizens can prevent crime. In contrast many of our countries major cities
have banned all guns. In 1976 guns were banned in Washington DC. Since then the murder rate
has risen 400%. According to a CBS poll, 64% of Americans rightfully understand and don't
believe gun control laws reduce crime anyway. History has proven that every nation, which has
disarmed its citizenry, has ended up with a dictator, a police state, and with countless horrible
atrocities. It is true that we either learn from history or history will repeat itself. Personal
Protection Not only is it our right to own guns for protection against a overbearing government, but
also against those who intend to infringe on the peoples security. The criminals don't care about
gun control laws for themselves. Actually, they are hoping for more laws will pass for gun control.
It makes breaking the law safer and easier for them. A common belief is that people don't need guns
because we have the

automatically (Spencer 2014). It tells you to put your hand away from fire, and to run away from
undesirable tasks. It tells you to go for immediate mood repair says, Timothy A. Pychyl, Ph.D., a
psychology professor from Carleton University. The prefrontal cortex is a newer and weaker part
of our brain. It's the part that allows us to process information and make decisions. This is also what
separates us humans from animals, who just follow their stimulus, says Timothy A. Pychyl, Ph.D.,
author from Procrastinators Digest: A Concise Guide to Solving the Procrastinators Puzzle. But this
part of our brain isn't turned on automatically. For it to function, we have to switch it on ourselves
(Spencer 2014). We have to actually sit down and do our homework, project, or whatever
assignment we need to actually complete. And the moment you aren't working on your task, your
limbic system takes over and you give in to what feels good, you start procrastinating (Spencer

(INSERT IDENTITY BASED ATTENTION GRABBER BECAUSE I CAN'T THINK OF ONE)
Good morning/Afternoon, I'm Tarryn and today I'm going to talk to you about personal identity.
Identity is what makes us who we are, everyone has a different identity. Without identity we wouldn't
be human because everyone needs one to exist. Our identity is changing as we progress through life
and as we experience new and different things. The texts that I've looked at are "Frankenstein", the
graphic novel by Gris Grimly, published in 2013, is an adaptation of Mary Shelley's original text,
about a scientist who creates a 'monster' who he's ashamed of and leaves the 'monster' with no
knowledge of anything about himself or the world. My second text is "Edward Scissorhands", a
film directed by Tim Burton and released in 1990, which is about a man created by a scientist who
dies before he can entirely finish his creation and must live his life with scissors as hands. From
these texts, I am going to be talking about how our journey through life changes our identity and how
others can affect our identity.
As we progress through life, our identity changes. We are always moving through life so our
identity never stays the same, along with our identity changing so do our views and beliefs. In Gris
Grimly's graphic novel, "Frankenstein", we are presented with a young intelligent Victor
Frankenstein, as we progress through the novel, we see his dark interests and intent begin to show.

  • 10. Attention Cognitive Psychology Research carried out on attention has mainly been associated with the selective processing of incoming sensory information. It proposes, to some degree, our awareness of the world depends on what we choose to focus on and not simply the stimulation received by our senses. Attention is often linked to a filter that screens out most potential stimuli whilst allowing a select few to pass through into our conscious awareness, however, a great deal of debate has been devoted to where the filter is situated in the information processing chain (Martindale, 1991). Psychologists have made extensive contributions to this subject matter in the past century. Notable examples include Donald Broadbent's filter theory of attention (1958), which set the...show more content... This buffer was a temporary memory store in which the unselected information could be held in parallel for short periods of time (Styles, 2006). Information can remain in the buffer for processing at a later stage, if this is not the case, it corrodes and is then lost (Martindale, 1991). It is only when the "information passes through the filter into the limited capacity channel, which is a serial processor, that it is identified" (Styles, 2006, p19). The indication is that therefore, selection from the parallel input is made at early levels of processing, and is consequently an "early selection model" (Styles, 2006). A number of theorist's have, however, introduced models that completely reject Broadbent's Filter model. An example is that of Deutsch and Deutsch's attention model (Martindale, 1991). Deutsch and Deutsch (1963) offer a model in which all stimuli are fully analysed, with the most significant message determining the response (Eyesnck, 2010). This theory proposes a bottleneck, as the filter is placed closer to the response end of the processing system. This model is recognized as a late–selection model (Deutsch & Deutsch, 1963). The Deutsch and Deutsch model was later modified by Norman (1968) who alleges that sensory inputs are processed routinely and instinctively before we consciously know about them. Norman suggests that no signal is filtered out but all are processed to the point of activating the stored Get more content on HelpWriting.net

A good example of this is the Ruby Ridge Incident, where a mans wife and son were killed over a minor firearm offense. Some States have enacted their own laws. Florida has allowed its citizens to carry a concealed weapon. Since this law was enacted the murder rate has dropped by 29%. Over the same period of time the nationwide murder rate increased by 11%. This clearly shows that guns in the hands of law–abiding citizens can prevent crime. In contrast many of our countries major cities have banned all guns. In 1976 guns were banned in Washington DC. Since then the murder rate has risen 400%. According to a CBS poll, 64% of Americans rightfully understand and don't believe gun control laws reduce crime anyway. History has proven that every nation, which has disarmed its citizenry, has ended up with a dictator, a police state, and with countless horrible atrocities. It is true that we either learn from history or history will repeat itself. Personal Protection Not only is it our right to own guns for protection against a overbearing government, but also against those who intend to infringe on the peoples security. Pychyl, Ph.D., a psychology professor from Carleton University. The prefrontal cortex is a newer and weaker part of our brain. It's the part that allows us to process information and make decisions. This is also what separates us humans from animals, who just follow their stimulus, says Timothy A. Pychyl, Ph.D., author from Procrastinators Digest: A Concise Guide to Solving the Procrastinators Puzzle. But this part of our brain isn't turned on automatically. For it to function, we have to switch it on ourselves (Spencer 2014). We have to actually sit down and do our homework, project, or whatever assignment we need to actually complete. And the moment you aren't working on your task, your limbic system takes over and you give in to what feels good, you start procrastinating (Spencer 2014). • 16. (INSERT IDENTITY BASED ATTENTION GRABBER BECAUSE I CAN'T THINK OF ONE) Good morning/Afternoon, I'm Tarryn and today I'm going to talk to you about personal identity. Identity is what makes us who we are, everyone has a different identity. Without identity we wouldn't be human because everyone needs one to exist. Our identity is changing as we progress through life and as we experience new and different things. The texts that I've looked at are "Frankenstein", the graphic novel by Gris Grimly, published in 2013, is an adaptation of Mary Shelley's original text, about a scientist who creates a 'monster' who he's ashamed of and leaves the 'monster' with no knowledge of anything about himself or the world. My second text is "Edward Scissorhands", a film directed by Tim Burton and released in 1990, which is about a man created by a scientist who dies before he can entirely finish his creation and must live his life with scissors as hands. From these texts, I am going to be talking about how our journey through life changes our identity and how others can affect our identity. As we progress through life, our identity changes. We are always moving through life so our identity never stays the same, along with our identity changing so do our views and beliefs. In Gris Grimly's graphic novel, "Frankenstein", we are presented with a young intelligent Victor Frankenstein, as we progress through the novel, we see his dark interests and intent begin to show.
