3. Oil spills are very threatening and dangerous. When the oil covers the surface of the sea, the marine life are unable to breathe. Birds are especially affected because some of the birds eat fishes that are contaminated with oil. Oil spills happen when oil tankers collide and spill the oil.
4. This is a picture of a boom. . To stop the oil from spreading further, floating booms, or floating barriers , are placed around the area of the oil spill to prevent it from spreading even further.
5. When workers remove oil from water, they usually try to vacuum the top layer of oil because when oil spills, most of the oil will float on the water while some will dissolve into the water. Thus, when oil spills, the worker will suck out the top layer of oil with a special vacuum.
6. Sometimes, workers will burn the water in order to remove the oil. This is only a last resort for workers. This burning is only a last resort because the burning is hard to put out.
9. Did you know??? Singapore has actually had many oil spills. In October 1997, two large oil tankers collided, spilling 25 000 tonnes of oil in what was Singapore’s worst oil spill in history. The collision occurred despite the 8km visibility that day, which is considered normal. The impact done is known fully known despite the cleanup effort. One of the damaged oil tankers is now anchored near Raffles Lighthouse and serves as a reminder to us all that despite all our caution and care, oil spills are still unavoidable.
10. Our experiment... We will do the experiment on the spot. Our method…… We will add water to the sand. As oil is denser than water, it will float and we can remove it.

And If it is that way , then prepare to say goodbye to our wonderful beaches and cycling around it .. Having picnic .. Seeing the wonderful sunset. Camping and having educational tours there ..
