Editor's Notes
HelloeverybodyI’m Martin Ortiz Product Manager for Telecom Argentina CDN streaming media servicesforlast 6 years.& itisan honorfor me tobehere, withall of you.
We deployed within Telecom Argentina our CDN manager controlling 5 POPs to start with. In Each POP we have installed streamers supporting WM, HLS, smoothstreaming and Flash. On the left you see that can Content Providers make their content available as live radio, live TV or media file. On the right, you can see the back office that Our CDN manager interfaces with. This back office includes the customer provisioning system, the CMS, the billing systems and also the Analytics. Our system is a software only solution running on IT Servers and is independent from the underlying network infra-structure. It’s Open, working with partners like Sandvine for DPI or Skytide for reporting and Analytics.
On top of the delivery components, we support the business logicthatisnecessary to successfullydeploy CDN Services.Weprovidedifferentlayers in our system corresponding to differentroles: First of all, youcouldbe a Resellerthatcanbe an agregatorthat manage a subset of the overallbandwidth, Content provider like a TV channel for instance or an OTT offering and finally services thatcanbe On demande or live content. For eachlevel, our system provides :Quotas, billing and Analytics. Our system does not requireanyadditionalintegration and can put you in business veryquickly.
Duringtheconference, wehaveheard a lotaboutthecomplexity of theOperator CDN Business model and theability of NSP toattractcontentproviders. Well, we can saythat Telecom Argentina has beensuccessfull and thesenumbers are speakingforthemselves. With More than 100k sessions, a growingnumber of POPs and a capacity of around 80 Gb/s and growing, the Telecom Argentina systemisprobablyone of thebiggestoperator CDN in South Americatoday.Withthesupport of themost popular streamingformats, Telecom Argentina can easilygetonboard new contentprovidersIn terms of storage, wehavedeployed 500TB and targeting 1 PB with up to 25TB per POP.Finally, in terms of workingwithothers, Thesystemwillextendtoborderscountrieslike Paraguay in 2012.
Earlier in the presentation, Martin explainedthat local content providers have a local audience. Let’sverifythis. La copaAmericais the oldest continental football competition. Well A local Broadcaster in Argentina secured the rights for La CopaAmerica in ARgentina. And theyselectedTelecomCDN for deliverigtheir content. Whenyou look atour reports, youcanseethat 92% of viewersreside in Argentina and 97% in Latin America. This shows thatthereis a play for operatorCDNswith the local content.
As a conclusion, I wouldsaythat if you are a Network Service Provider, Broadpeak canofferyou a turnkey solution to startbeing a CDN service provider. Telecom Argentina is a living proof thatwith the rigthtools, NSPscanplay in the CDN service space. Beyondthis central application youcan use ourdeliveryplatform to carry yourownbranded IPTV or OTT offer. Finally if youcan’tobtainfrom a content providers thattheylocalizetheircdninsideyour network, withouradvancedcachingplatformyoucanstillsign a contractwiththem and implement the delivery via transparent caching techniques. In all cases, at Broadpeak webring CPS and NSPstogether for a better end user experience.
