Volunteers gathered on September 16, 2006 to help clean up the Nissequogue River on Long Island, New York. Groups worked to remove trash and debris that had accumulated along the banks and shoreline of the river. The river cleanup was part of an ongoing effort to restore the local ecosystem and improve water quality in the Nissequogue River watershed.
