Here is my compilation of 12 of the best movies based on moms and their lives. Stack them up soon and thank me later :)
I have always believed movies to be a medium meant for much more than just entertainment. They are inspirations from real life and hence a good reflection of real life.
Even these movies are masterpieces in addressing issues of all kinds about raising kids, motherhood, emotions, love and life! All are a MUST MUST WATCH!
The genre here is drama and are Hollywood movies. I will try to do a list of a different genre of mom movies like comedy or probably even mom movies in different languages later…till then…make sure you have watched all of these!!

TERMS OF ENDEARMENT (1983)
Follows hard-to-please Aurora looking for love
and her daughter’s family problems.
High points of the movie: Depicts the struggle
of a mom who knows her daughter is clearly
choosing a wrong partner and yet she can’t
stop her. Also, when the daughter’s marriage
does collapse the way the mom handles the
situation is so beautiful. No “I told you so”
attitude! All teenage kids’ moms

PRECIOUS (2009)
In New York City’s Harlem circa 1987, an
overweight, abused, illiterate teen who is pregnant
with her second child is invited to enroll in an
alternative school in hopes that her life can head in
a new direction.
High points of the movie: The gory story of
pedophilia comes to light in this story about an
Afro-american kid who is impregnated by her own
father! However the movie leaves you on a positive
feel when it shows how education and correct
mentoring can change your life. Inspirational, heavy
and touching- Precious is a must watch for all moms
who feel that they have it hard!!

ORDINARY PEOPLE (1980)
The accidental death of the older son of an
affluent family deeply strains the relationships
among the bitter mother, the good-natured
father, and the guilt-ridden younger son.
High points of the movie: A complicated plot
about what a mom would go through when one
of her children dies accidentally- at the hands of
her other kid! I can't imagine how the director
brought forth the barrage of emotional turmoil a
mom and family goes through when they lose a
child! No words!

A low-class woman is willing to do whatever it
takes to give her daughter a socially promising
future.
High points of the movie: All the “holier than
thou” perspective of being a mom comes
shattering down when a mom realises that she
might not be the best nurturer for her
daughter. The honesty and guts with which this
movie has been precedes its time!
STELLA DALLAS (1937)

Anna Fitzgerald looks to earn medical emancipation from
her parents who until now have relied on their youngest
child to help their leukemia-stricken daughter Kate
remain alive.
High points of the movie: When a couple conceives
another baby to help get stem cells for their first born
who is struggling with leukemia, it’s a sure short plot for
conflict! The story of a mom wanting to keep her child
alive, the story of a child who feels used and not as
precious as her leukemia ridden sister and the emotional
turmoils and turbulence is just such a touching story!

After having responded to her son’s numerous
letters in the guise of his father, a woman hires
a stranger to pose as his dad when meeting him.
High points of the movie: The importance of
having both parents in bringing up a kid is
emphasized in this movie. When a boy longs for
a father, his mom goes on to spin an elaborate
story to comfort him. The lengths a mom will go
to to bring peace to her kids is my take away
from this movie. I just love it!!!

A career woman reassesses her parents’ lives after she
is forced to care for her cancer-stricken mother.
High point of the movie: As kids we see our father as
the hero. the one with a career. the one who is all
macho and strong. We idolize him. When a daughter
who is in this very frame of mind comes back home to
look after her dying mother, she realises that it’s her
mother who is behind the strength of her family. A
beautiful bond that you get to witness. A story that
most of us will relate to- the undervalued matriarch!
Did i mention..Meryl Streep? Reason enough!
