Why? Purpose of assessment could include: certification following formal learning recognition of current existing competency based on previous learning and experience identify language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) skills and skill needs identify progress towards an outcome (formative) make decision about competency (summative) operation requirements for work licensing or regulatory requirements.  © 2010 Innovation and Business Industry Skills Council Ltd Participant Workbook page 24
Who? Target group could be: existing employees learners undertaking training. Identify characteristics organise assessment according to their needs make reasonable adjustment if required. © 2010 Innovation and Business Industry Skills Council Ltd Participant Workbook page 28
What? Use relevant assessment benchmark units of competency from Training Packages units or modules from accredited courses modules from non accredited courses organisational benchmarks. Contextualising benchmarks applicable to assessment context makes generic content more specific. How? Use range of assessment methods Consider: industry or enterprise assessment systems evidence-gathering opportunities legal, ethical and OHS requirements amount of time and money available needs of candidates whether there is a single or cluster of units risks and requirements, e.g. licensing requirements whether evidence is to be collected time. © 2010 Innovation and Business Industry Skills Council Ltd Participant Workbook page 35
