The document provides an overview of WorldFace, a proposed social media website. It describes the purpose of WorldFace as allowing long-distance communication and sharing news and opinions. It notes the logo, color scheme, and layout are meant to be easily recognizable and simple. The target audience is described as mainly being ages 16 and older from social classes C1 to E. The document then outlines the website functionality, including sign up/login pages, homepages, profile pages, and terms and conditions. It proposes job roles and salaries for producing the site, as well as a 4-week production plan. Finally, it discusses advertising revenue, budget, and important legal and ethical considerations like copyright, intellectual property, and the Data Protection
2. About the product
The purpose of WorldFace is to allow people to communicate with friends and family that
they don’t see on a regular basis due to long distance or any other reason. This also keeps
them up to date with any current news that is circulating around the world and allows them
to express their opinions through the comment section of any posts on the site. The reason
I went for the name WorldFace is due to the fact that the majority of the users are from all
parts of the world and this connotes how important it is that users communicate with those
they haven’t spoken to in a while or express their views/opinions on posts that are on the
site that they want all the users to look at. As for the slogan ‘Building a better tomorrow…’,
this connotes how the site is looking into the future as well as the past and how it grows on
a daily basis on what it features, the number of users on the site and what updates can be
brought in that users would favour. As you can tell, this has similarities with Facebook as it
has a similar colour scheme and concept to the social media site. As for the layout, it is
simplistic and not overly-complicated which puts users at ease on how accessible the
website is for them and how easy it is to learn the basics on what is featured on the website
and how to access content on the website. The font I have decided to go for is Maximum
Impact for WorldFace as it simplifies the website into one logo and will be easily
recognisable to users. The USP would be that all content from other news websites are free
to view on WorldFace without needing a subscription, which means the users have a variety
of news websites to choose from just one website as well as having the ability to
communicate with other users on the website.
3. About the product(Continued)
For target audience, based on Hartley’s 7 subjectivities, this would mainly appeal to
those who are This would appeal to those who are 16 years old and above based on
the content that is presented on the news feed as well as what the users posts on
their own pages. This is also because the users would mainly be categorised within the
social classes of C1,C2, D and E as it would be used by those who are around the
lower-middle classes so those who are students, unemployed or have a professional
job employment or work as a supervisor. In addition, gender-wise, WorldFace will be
targeted at both genders due to the content which is available for everyone to read
about but the majority that will most likely use the website will be female in
comparison to male. For ethnicity, as the website is based in the United Kingdom, this
means that the majority of users will be from the UK along with other countries
around the world. This depends on which countries WorldFace will be launched in. For
Katz’ uses and gratifications theory, this would be categorised as personal
identification because of what content news pages would post on the website, there
will be some news and videos which many users can relate to through real life
experiences and might express them through the comments sections that is a feature
available on the website. Lastly, for Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, WorldFace would
be categorised as Social Climbers due to the majority of the target audience being 16
and over, they will be interested in what pages based on celebrities and their interests
update about and what happens daily.

7. Website Functionality (Continued)
The font I have decided to use for the logo of
‘WorldFace’ is Maximum Impact as it simplifies the
website into one logo and will be easily recognisable to
users. In addition, the reason I went for the colour
scheme of blue and white for the logo and website in
general is to connote to the users that this is a
trustworthy website as all news sources are genuine and
how it makes sure that all users are protected at all costs
from any irregularities occurring within users’ accounts.
8. Website Functionality (Continued)
Terms and conditions
Based on my terms and conditions, It is vital that all the the terms and conditions for my website are as stated clearly
as well as any information that relates to any legal and ethical issues e.g. copyright. In addition, IP information and
any government laws will be available on the website so that the users know what rights they hold whilst they are
active on the website. An example of this is that the users should not provide any fraudulent personal information on
the website, keep any contact information up to date and not post content that violates others 'rights or even violates
the law.
Privacy policy
The privacy policy for my website will be stated clearly and accurately on the website so that no confusion is caused
within the users. Through this, it tells the users what the website do when the user themselves provide the
information needed for them to create an account onto the website like an email address in case any activity occurs
within their account. Also, the website will be able to receive information from third party partners based on the
activities that occur between them and the user e.g. when an advertiser sends data to the website about the user’s
interactions with them. Furthermore, the user will automatically be sent a notification through the email they
registered their account with telling them about an update of the privacy policy so that they understand what
changes will most likely occur through this privacy policy update.
As I took inspiration from Facebook to create this website, I also took parts of their data policy on their privacy page
and from their legal terms page as it has a simplistic format that can be read by users very easily.

The launch date for the website will be on Friday 13th April, this is a date where most people
consider it a day of bad luck but this won’t affect the launch of the website as it is suppose to
bring a change in a way all resources for the audience are available on one platform. I have
been given around 4 weeks to create the website which is an appropriate amount of time
needed as long as all the staff stick to the production plan set out and make sure each task is
completed by the deadline.
For staff, roles needed for the production of the website would be an editor, graphic designer,
journalist and writer based on designing the logo and layout of the website on paper and
graphically, researching stories to put into each category and ensuring that all widgets and
components of the website are functioning correctly.
As shown here, this is the table which outlines each
staff needed to complete the production of the website
and the average salary they each earn from their job
role.
Equipment that is needed for the production of the
website specifically are Adobe Creative Cloud(for all
apps, it costs £53.20 per month) in order to use
applications such as Dreamweaver and Photoshop and
Apple MacBook Air 13.3” which costs £899.00 each but I
believe 2 will be needed for the production of the
website as lots of group work will be carried out
throughout this project.
12. BudgetFor budget, in terms of costs
to produce a website, it
depends what type of
website is being created.
Costs range from £200-
£10,000 but there is many
website builders that are
available to use for free
without the need of technical
experience. For WorldFace, it
is a small business as its
content is updated on a
regular basis as it provides
news as well as allowing users
to post content on their own
pages which will cost around
£500-£1,000 to produce.

13. Revenue
The type of online advertising that I will use for my social media
site will be display advertisements which are a different form of
banner adverts. These can come through as popup adverts and
static images so banner advertising which I have decided to use
for my site. These advertisements will be aimed at those that I
have aimed my website at so those who are 16 years old+. The
pricing for banner advertising varies from £1-£20 per thousand
impressions, the cost of banner advertisements has decreased
over the years due to users finding them irritating and obstructive
to what they are doing on the site.

15. Legal and Ethical Issues- Data Protection Act 1998
The Data Protection Act 1998 is an act that currently exists in the United Kingdom which
highlights the ways in how information about people are used and handled in a legal way. The
main purpose of this act is to provide protection to people so preventing their personal
information from being misused or abused. The main rules of the Data Protection Act 1998
define that personal data should:
•Be processed fairly and lawfully
•Be accurate and current
•Not be retained for longer than necessary
•Be protected against unauthorized or unlawful processing and against accidental loss or damage
•Be obtained only for lawful purposes.
As WorldFace has a similar concept to Facebook, this means that all the privacy policy that is
featured within the legal terms and conditions of Facebook applies to what is stated on the
WorldFace site. This would be terms such as varied information that the website collects from the
user like:
Things the user does and what information they provide: this includes collecting content and
other information that the users use on WorldFace which includes signing up for an account and
communicating with other users.
Things others do and the information they provide: WorldFace collect content that users provide
when using their services such as information about the user, when they send a message to the
user or when they share a photo of the user.

16. Legal and Ethical Issues-
Watermark
• Watermarking is defined as a specific mark that is place on
different types of paper whilst in production that can only be
identified and seen in certain angles of light.
• Depending on the number of photos and videos that will be
watermarked, the prices range from £0 to £13.37 per month.
• In order to go through the process of watermarking, the
easiest and fastest way of watermarking your images is
through certain websites like watermark.ws which requires
monthly pay in order for it to watermark a certain number of
images and videos that you require.
• What I would watermark on my website is the content that is
featured on the website such as the images but the majority of
the content would contain credits to the owner on the caption
of the post than across the post. In addition, the content
shouldn't be plagiarized or else certain action would be
required for this to be prevented.

17. Legal and Ethical Issues- Impersonation
• Even though impersonating someone else isn’t classified as
a crime but there are currently existing civil laws which
have been put in place that relate to impersonation that
occurs online. One way of impersonating people online
which is a criminal offence is through illegally obtaining any
money, goods or services through impersonating someone
else
• With WorldFace, they will have similar rules to Facebook
that apply to users about using their own authentic
identity. This includes removing profiles that impersonate
other people and asking users to close down other multiple
accounts they have created in order to identify them easier.

18. Conclusion
To conclude LO3, I have spoken about the website so what content is going to
be featured on it, what its purpose is and how it is going to be laid out. I have
also mentioned about the target audience through the theories Hartley’s 7
subjectivities, Katz and Maslow about the website so who it is targeted at
overall. In addition, I said about website functionality so how the website is
going to function overall in terms of what is going to be featured on each part
of the website, what the terms and conditions and privacy policy will be and
why I went with the colours and font used for the logo. I set up a production
plan which highlights each task that is needs to be completed by the date that
is listed under each task that leads up to the launch date of the website.
Furthermore, I also spoke about within the production plan about the
equipment needed for the build-up of the website and the salaries of the
staff needed for the website. I mentioned about the revenue so what type of
advertising will be used on my website and how much it will cost as well as all
the legal and ethical issues that relate to my website and how they will be
implicated throughout the website.
