4. Why DAPSI?
The Next Generation Internet (NGI) initiative,
launched by the EC in the autumn of 2016,
aims at shaping the future internet as an
interoperable platform ecosystem with values
such as: openness, inclusivity, transparency,
privacy, cooperation, and protection of
data.
The General Data Protection Regulation
(GDPR) applies since 25 May 2018. Specifically,
Article 20 has the purpose of making
significantly easier for citizens to have any
data which is stored with one service
provider transmitted directly to another
provider.
Now, the new data protection regulation on
portability has been developed to give the
concerned persons better control over their
personal data.
New Regulation NGI, by the European
Commision
European project funded by the European Commission under the European
Union’s Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Programme, and part of the
European Commission’s Next Generation Internet (NGI) initiative
5. The project
The aim

Services & Data Portability field through the
support to researchers, SMEs and startups or
innovators providing up to 150k€ of funding and a

Portability
? Other
To empower users to share their data with any service provider
and host that they trust
To facilitate switches between service providers
To ensure that the personal data are transferred in a secure way
Data correction, data ownership, user education (GDPR), …
13. Service Portability
• By making data and identities usable and portable across services, users
regain control and innovative new services are made possible.
• Introducing suitable microscale alternatives and interoperable
standards that can be universally deployed
• Creating (or enhancing) viable open alternatives for the key proprietary
services that people depend on: Google, Microsoft, Zoom, Facebook, …
• Due to the limited time of participation in DAPSI, projects under this
category can create a first version for future work of the community or
improve existing works in the field
14. Data Interoperability & Compatibility
Environment 1 & 2 may have different data models &
architectures, hence data transfer may become difficult
Solution: common standards & shared vocabularies,
FAIR principles
• Designing a cross-domain data architecture
• Using established and open data models and standards
• Tools for data conversion from one format to another
Challenges during data transfer:
15. Security & Privacy
Secure data encryption & transmission during transfer
Full anonymization
Ensuring correctness & integrity of data during transfer
16. Others
• Ethical & legal issues
• User Education
• Data correction
• Data ownership
• Marketing of data portability solutions
