2007
I was vice president Information Technology for an online based lead generation company here in Tampa, with over 1
Billion in Sales in that year.
As the IT guy, I had a dotted line in this Matrix organization to direct support of a team of marketers.
The Marketing dept had a team of copywriters generating hundreds of pages of content about home buyers & beautiful
locations with vibrant communities to live-in all across the United States. Many extolled the virtues of specific models of
New Homes offered by Top Builders....with all sorts of amenities...to seduce them into the buy.
The era of -
Ella Fitzgerald, Stan Getz and Dexter Gordon
Those copy writers were writing articles for our more than 100 web sites and over a dozen Blog sites run on
Wordpress. Supporting our online based Real Estate model. Coincidentally, my wife had become a Florida Realtor
in 2006
Blogging was just hitting its stride....Early adopters like myself had various reasons for jumping Into blogging with
some having to learn how to hack the Code to get it to look the way they wanted to…..Updates were painful and
the less experienced fumbled with FTP tools and often crashed the app and had to start over...lots of frustration
....when updates came out…
.... That was Wordpress versions 2.1, 2.2 and 2.3 Many outside of WordPress are not aware that Major releases
are named after Jazz musicians.
WordPress core developers share a love of jazz music, and since WordPress 1.0 all major releases are named in
honor of jazz musicians they admire. Jazzers and Release Dates
Charlie Parker / Jimmy Smith / ???
2014
WP versions 3.8 3.9 and 4.0
3.8 took us into a True CMS
Now installing and updating is much easier and intuitive.
Minor updates are automatically applied.
You can listen to a Last.fm station of all the musicians wordpress named a release for.

W3Tech Web Technology Survey: August 12, 2014
http://w3techs.com/technologies/overview/content_management/all
http://www.wpbeginner.com/showcase/40-most-notable-big-name-brands-that-are-using-
wordpress/
WordPress is open source software, meaning that it is worked on by the
community and is free for users to download and install. Open source
software sometimes can suffer from not being maintained and updated
regularly. WordPress, however, doesn’t have that problem. It is continually
improved and updated, and has become a mature and stable product.
With the release of version 3.8, WordPress moved from being a blog
platform to being a content management system.
WordPress 4.0
So what’s in it?
Key Changes to the back-end:
• Changes to Editor Screen (the screen you use when
composing new posts or pages).
A nice change involves the way you view video as you
insert it into articles and pages. Videos that can be
inserted by simply adding the URL to your page’s HTML
code, such as YouTube or WordPress.tv videos, can now be
seen in the Visual editor screen.
The new editor will also intelligently resize itself to the full
height of the article you are editing. This allows the largest
possible working area while keeping the editor’s top
toolbar and footer in view at all times.
This change also completely removes the scroll bar in the
editor. This change takes a bit of getting used to
 Slated to be released August 27, 2014
 Currently at Beta 3 release
•Changes to Media Library
Media Library now offering a grid view similar to what you get when you hit the Add Media button in a post.
But WordPress also still offers the current list view.
•Changes to Plugin Search Screens
Redesigned the plugin area a bit. On the back
end of WordPress, when you click on the menu
item to install new Plugins, and search by topic
to find a plugin, you now get more information
right there.
You can now see the last time a plugin was
updated. You can also see if it was tested with
your particular install. This addresses a
common issue with plugins, which is that some
plugins are not updated regularly. When
plugins are not updated regularly, they may
either not work with newer versions of
WordPress or pose a security risk.
4.1 Release?
GSoC Menu Customizer
The Menu Customizer adds custom menu management to the Customizer. Development transitions feature-
plugin format, for core consideration by 4.1 currently in plugin format (Alpha)
The entire Menus experience is now consolidated into a Menus panel in the Customizer, where you can
preview your menus as you make changes. It’s really nice to have Menus easily accessible alongside the rest
of the site-appearance-management tools in the Customizer.

Lets take a look at WP 4.0 Beta 3
This was a live demonstration of WordPress 4.0 Beta 3
The Future for WordPress:
WordPress 4.1 may officially announce the arrival of WordPress' next transition, this
time from a content management system to an application framework that is likely to
accelerate the change by providing an API directly from the WordPress core..
"It's likely that the core WordPress API will lead to an
explosion in compatible API offerings by major plugins."
The API uses JSON which is a very popular data format because almost every
programming language can understand it. Any program which can access the web
can use the API, leaving developers only the WordPress-specific code to write.
"The JSON REST API is a simple but powerful way to interact with WordPress.
Mobile, desktop and web applications can get data from WordPress and do anything
you can do via the admin panel. It’s like the admin panel, minus the UI. This project
will affect everyone who works with WordPress. Mobile and desktop applications
can move past restrictions on WordPress’ existing APIs and start working with
WordPress in much deeper ways, while themes and plugins can become much more
interactive. The availability of this as a core feature also means less time spent by
developers creating something similar, and more time spent creating actual
features."
SMBsocial covers this in detail on the blog "Touchpoints"
