Well, if these questions often haunt you and scare you, all you need
 to do is just take this tour. This ppt will not only answer all your
 queries, but at the end, will generate a new confidence in you.


                             So get started.!!
 A GD is a methodology used by an organization to gauge
  whether the candidate has certain personality traits and/or
  skills that it desires in its members.
 In this methodology, the group of candidates is given a
  topic or a situation, given a few minutes(occasionally) to
  think about the same, and then asked to discuss the it
  among themselves for 15-20 minutes.
 There is a judge who examines each and every
  member, finally short listing the deserving candidates.
 The reason why institutes conducts a GD:
    “to get to know you as a person and gauge how well
                you will fit in their institute”.

   It tests how you function as a part of a team. As a

  manager, you will always be working in teams, as a
  member or as a leader.
 Managers have to work in a team and get best results
  out of teamwork. Therefore how you interact in a team
  becomes an important criterion for your selection.
   Ability to work in a team
   Assertiveness
   Ability to think on ones feet
   Creativity
   Communication skills
   Reasoning ability
   Leadership skills
   Initiative
   Flexibility

                           You are being short-listed.
A GD mainly consists of :
    Communication Skills
    i.e. the power of skills. A candidate who is successful in holding the
   attention of the audience creates a positive impact.

     Knowledge and ideas regarding a given subject
     that comes from consistent reading on various topics ranging from
    science and technology to politics.

    Capability to co-ordinate and lead
     where the examiner withdraws and becomes a silent spectator once
    the discussion starts. Show tactfulness, skill, understanding and
    knowledge on varied topics, enterprise, forcefulness and other
    leadership qualities to motivate and influence other candidates who
    may be almost equally competent.
Exchange of thoughts
The purpose is to get an idea about candidates in a short time and
make assessments about their skills, which normally cannot be
evaluated in an interview. These skills may be team
membership, leadership skills, listening and articulation skills.

Addressing the group as a whole
In a group discussion it is not necessary to address anyone by name.
Even otherwise you may not know everyone's names. It better to
address the group as a whole.

Thorough preparations
Start making preparations for interview and group discussions right
away, without waiting till the eleventh hour, this is, if and when
called for them. It is important to concentrate on subject knowledge
and general awareness. Hence, the prime need for thorough
preparation. Remember, the competition is very tough.
 Although a group discussion is conducted by giving topics related to the
  current affairs. This enables the judge to check the awareness of the participant
  regarding surroundings.
 Below are listed some very commonly topics for the GD:
  1. US war on Iraq-justified or not.
  2. Role of UN in peacekeeping.
  3. Position of Women in India compared to other nations.
  4.Is Globalization Really Necessary?
  5. Is China better than India in software.
  6. Should Sonia Gandhi be made the PM
  7. BPOs in INDIA
  8. Government contribution to IT
  9. Is an MBA necessary to succeed in life?
  10. Premarital sex
This doesn't end the list. There are many more topics that can be allotted.
  This was only to give you a rough idea about the topics.

   Just form a group of 5-6 people, choose a topic & start discussing.
   Keep eye contact while speaking.

   Initiate the GD.

   Allow others to speak.

   Speak clearly and politely.

   Make sure to bring the discussion on track.

   Positive attitude reflects that you are confident.


   Speak sensibly and relevantly.


   Listen carefully to others. Rem: “A good speaker is a good listener”.


   There is no need to go into much details.


   Dress formally and smartly. Rem: “First impression is the last impression”.
Now, since you have gone through this presentation and solved clarified
    almost all your doubts regarding the GD, you are ready to face the GD.
                               Just remember,
                 There would be nothing to frighten you
                       if you refused to be afraid.
So, have confidence and faith in yourself. Never leave optimism and
  always move ahead.

It is important to concentrate on subject knowledge and general awareness. Hence, the prime need for thorough preparation. Remember, the competition is very tough.
  • 8.  Although a group discussion is conducted by giving topics related to the current affairs. This enables the judge to check the awareness of the participant regarding surroundings.  Below are listed some very commonly topics for the GD: 1. US war on Iraq-justified or not. 2. Role of UN in peacekeeping. 3. Position of Women in India compared to other nations. 4.Is Globalization Really Necessary? 5. Is China better than India in software. 6. Should Sonia Gandhi be made the PM 7. BPOs in INDIA 8. Government contribution to IT 9. Is an MBA necessary to succeed in life? 10. Premarital sex This doesn't end the list. There are many more topics that can be allotted. This was only to give you a rough idea about the topics. Just form a group of 5-6 people, choose a topic & start discussing.

Keep eye contact while speaking.  Initiate the GD.  Allow others to speak.  Speak clearly and politely.  Make sure to bring the discussion on track.  Positive attitude reflects that you are confident.  Speak sensibly and relevantly.  Listen carefully to others. Rem: “A good speaker is a good listener”.  There is no need to go into much details.  Dress formally and smartly. Rem: “First impression is the last impression”.
