In 2009, at 40 years old, I had a heart attack out of the blue. It was caused by a rare condition called Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection, or SCAD. Since then, my volunteer work, via WomenHeart's Science & Leadership Symposium at Mayo, has been to educate women about heart disease, and also support other SCAD survivors.
