Pressure put on children in order to do well in their studies
1. Pressure put on Children in Order to do well in their Studies
Nowadays, we always hear about children being under pressure like it’s a common
thing for the whole society. Their time is filled with the daily grind of activities and things
in order for them to excel in their studies. We’re facing this problem mainly because the
pressure from the parents and also teachers, the educational system as well as the
child’s own disability to divide their time properly.
Firstly, pressure from the parents and teachers. It’s a lie if you say parents don’t want
their children to succeed. All parents would want their children to succeed and make
them proud but unfortunately, they put on high expectations and push their children to
achieve certain goals. The children would end up in a depression because the parents
already planted in their mind if they don’t achieve the goals, they’re an embarrassment
and also disappointment to the parents and they will also feel as if they have no time for
themselves as the activities that the parents signed up for them consume all of their
time in order to excel academic wise.
A similar case with teachers – in a way they feel obliged to make sure that you excel
because they’re the one who teaches you. If the students fail, they would feel as if they
also failed to be a teacher and the parents would end up blaming them for not teaching
their children properly. Parents and teachers should be more understanding towards
what their children and students are going through.
2. Education system also plays a huge role that causes this problem. Education system
in most countries are too exam oriented that the students strive to get A’s rather than
gaining the knowledge itself. Sure, they could memorize everything and get A pluses for
all subject but is that all? What about the experience? The hands-on? The students will
not be given enough exposure and in the end, they’ll only succeed in school based on
exams and grades because they don’t have enough experience and exposure. They will
be afraid to think out of the box, to be creative and to think of other solutions and most
of all they’re afraid to make mistakes yet we all know that mistake is the best teacher. In
the long run, what’s the point of getting an A if the journey was a monotonous path of
remembering formulas and memorizing facts?
Apart from parents, teachers and education system, the children themselves are also
the main reason to this problem. Some children have so much going on in their
timetable till they couldn’t divide and organize their time properly. They over estimate
their own capability. This causes a lot of pressure because of the lack of time
organization. It is good to set goals in your life but we should know our own limits and
don’t push ourselves up to the pressure point as it is very unhealthy physically and
mentally.
3. In conclusion, to avoid this problem, the parents and teachers should be more
understanding. The goals should be reasonable with the children’s capability. The time
management also is important to avoid pressure and depression.
