Global Warming Is Real Amanda, Ryan, Jason
Fact 1 Energy: with the world more than 80% dependent on oil, coal, and natural gas to fuel vehicles, light and heat homes, and drive industry and agriculture, energy is essential for all aspects of humans life.
Fact 2 Average temperatures have climbed 1.4 degrees Fahrenheit around the world since 1880, much of this in recent decades
Fact 3 The rate of warming is increasing. The 20th century's last two decades were the hottest in 400 years and possibly the warmest for several millennia, 11 of the past 12 years are among the dozen warmest since 1850.
Fact 4 The Arctic is feeling the effects the most. Average temperatures in Alaska, western Canada, and eastern Russia have risen at twice the global average
Fact 5 Arctic ice is rapidly disappearing, and the region may have its first completely ice-free summer by 2040 or earlier. Polar bears and indigenous cultures are already suffering from the sea-ice loss.
Fact 6 Glaciers and mountain snows are rapidly melting, Montana's Glacier National Park only has 27 glaciers left today, versus 150 in 1910. In the Northern Hemisphere, thaws also come a week earlier in spring and freezes begin a week later.
Fact 7 An upsurge in the amount of extreme weather events, such as wildfires, heat waves, and strong tropical storms, is also attributed in part to climate change by some experts.
Fact 8 Hurricanes are happening more and more frequently
Fact 9 Sea ice is melting at a fast rate
Fact 10 Sea levels are rising
Fact 11 Deserts are growing
Fact 12 Global warming is made by humans. Humans are pouring carbon dioxide into the atmosphere much faster than plants and oceans can absorb it.
Fact 13 Many animals have been going extinct due to global warming
Fact 14 Global dimming a result of increasing concentrations of atmospheric aerosols that block sunlight from reaching the surface, has partially countered the effects of warming induced by greenhouse gases
