2. What is human right?
• is a right that is believed to belong justifiably to
every person;
• is recognition that inherent value of each person,
regardless of background, where we live, what
we look like, what we think or what we believe;
• is based on the principle of respect for the
individual. Their fundamental assumption is
that each person is a moral and rational being
who deserves to be treated with dignity.
3. Universal Declaration of Human Rights
• On October 24, 1945, in the aftermath of World
War II, the United Nations came into being as an
intergovernmental organization, with the
purpose of saving future generations from the
devastation of international conflict;
• The Declaration was drafted by representatives
of all regions of the world and encompassed all
legal traditions. Formally adopted by the United
Nations on December 10, 1948, the most
universal human rights document in existence;
4. • Today, the Declaration is a living document that
has been accepted as a contract between a
government and its people throughout the
world. According to the Guinness Book of World
Records, it is the most translated document in
the world.
5. The Core Values of Human Rights
1. Learning about human rights
- this involves about the key international
documents on human rights, the principal
concepts and the list of core values (equality,
justice, loving and etc).
2. Learning how to uphold human rights
- this requires not only on the acquisition of
relevant knowledge, but also with the
development and practice of the skills.
6. 3. Learning to practice human rights
- this needs to be reinforced through very nature
of classroom management which includes, the
quality of interpersonal relationships and the
methods of teaching and learning.
7. Women’s Rights
• Rights that promote a position of legal and social
equality of women with men.
Magna Carta for Women (Republic Act 9710)
• is a comprehensive women's human rights law
that seeks to eliminate discrimination through
the recognition, protection, fulfillment and
promotion of the rights of Filipino women.
8. Salient features of the law include:
1. establishes the responsibility of the
government to take actions in order to end
discrimination against women;
2. ensures a substantive equality of men and
women;
3. non-discriminatory and non-derogatory
portrayal of women in media and film to raise
the consciousness of the general public in
recognizing the dignity of women;
10. The Rights of the Child
• are the human rights of children with particular
attention to the rights of special protection and
care afforded to minors, including the following:
1. right to association with both parents.
2. basic needs for food
3. education
4. health care
5. national origin
6. other characteristics
11. Types of right for children
1. Provision: Children have the right to an
adequate standard of living, health
care, education and services, and
to play and recreation. These include a balanced
diet, a warm bed to sleep in, and access to schooling.
2. Protection: Children have the right to protection
from abuse, neglect, exploitation and
discrimination. This includes the right to safe places
for children to play; constructive child rearing
behavior, and acknowledgment of the evolving
capacities of children.
12. 3. Participation: Children have the right
to participate in communities and
have programs and services for themselves. This
includes children's involvement in libraries and
community programs, youth voice activities, and
involving children as decision-makers.
