What is the Rock Quality Designation (ROD) and using the provided Table 7.7 what is the description of rock quality? From the recovered rock core an unconfined compression test was conducted on a specimen having a diameter of 7.5 cm and a length 15 cm. The ultimate compress breaking load was 63,000 kg. The Strain at 50% of the unconfined compressive strength (sigma_c), the modulus of elasticity (E_sc), and modulus ratio(M_1) for the rock core specimen. Using the provided Tables 7.3 and 7.4 and Figure 7.28 determine the strength classification of the intact rock and the modulus of elasticity classification of the intact rock. (Use equations provided on the equation sheet)

Sum of length of rock core which have greater than 10 or 10 cm pieces = 1.9 m
Total core length = 5 m
RQD (%)= (sum of length of core pieces greater 10 cm or equal to 10 cm) x 100/ total core length
So RQD of given sample = 1.9x100/5 = 38 %
