We'll be talking about Open Education Resources (OER), Open Access publishing & Open Data. This event forms part of activities worldwide in support of open access to information: #OpenAccessWeek is October 22-28, 2012.http://www.openaccessweek.org Open Education ResourcesThe session opens with: an overview of alternative copyright models for publishing digital content; some motivations for open licensing; an overview of open source software and open educational resources in higher education; and how to get started licensing your own creative works under Creative Commons. Open AccessWe'll carry on to talk about what's behind Open Access academic publishing, how it's already contributing to our rich information environment, and how we can support and benefit this movement further. Open DataWe’ll also introduce what open data is and why it’s useful for scholars and students. Specifically, we’ll look at the provincial government’s open data portal and changes at Statistics Canada.
