Ramona Wendt RN February 10, 2010 (949)293-0723 Resume My name is Ramona Wendt. I am an experienced RN of 20 years. I have spent all my hours in acute hospital settings. Cardiac nursing at the intensive level is my preferred venue. I am looking for a permanent position where I can excel and further my professional development. . I began my healthcare career at age 18 in a convalescent hospital and after two years switched to an acute care facility. I am obtaining my BSN and will be getting National Certification PCCN. 1/2009 to present –MGA Healthcare Staffing- I work at hospitals in Orange County and occasionally in Los Angeles. Medical telemetry units, ICU are my usual areas. I work full time as work is available. Working through the registry has given me the opportunity to experience many different hospitals and see the similarities and the differences between them. At all of them, I use Best Practices and JCAHO standards. I am an avid student. I love learning new information as relates to nursing and the improvement of my abilities of being an excellent RN. 12/2007-12/2008 – Fountain Valley Hospital- Step down ICU/DOU. Patient to nurse ratio: 3:1. Care of patients s/p cardiac catheterization, with and without stent placement, care of arterial lines and sheath removal, ventilator dependent and tracheostomy patients, acute MI, congestive heart failure, respiratory failure, s/ CABG>48 hours, diabetes care and renal failure was the usual population. Cardiac monitoring and management of dysrhythmias and hypertension with intravenous drips of cardizem, amiodarone, nitroglycerine for chest pain and hypertension, and dopamine for blood pressure support. Fluid management and electrolyte imbalance management were very common in most of the patients in this unit. Fountain Valley is a designated Chest Pain Center so admissions were very high. If the patients worsened in this unit, they were moved to the MICU. Core measures and Best Practices were fundamental parts of the unit’s policies. 8/2006-12/2007- Travel nursing at Long Beach Memorial Hospital-telemetry-respiratory unit which had cardiac monitored patients with and without ventilators and tracheostomies; Mission Hospital of Mission Viejo- Patient population were admitted with stroke symptoms and this hospital is a Designated Stroke Facility. Progressive care stroke unit; Pomona Valley Hospital-Step down ICU and ICU increased my experience. The patient population at Pomona was ventilator, tracheostomy, and medical patients with cardiac monitoring. Each assignment was for 13 weeks 9/1978-6/2006 – Huntington Beach Hospital - I was a certified nurse’s assistant on the medical and surgical floors until I obtained my LVN license in 1987. In 1991, I obtained my ASN degree and RN license at Rancho Santiago College in Santa Ana, CA and was promoted after 2 years to Relief Charge RN on the telemetry unit. During my employment at HBH, I worked all nursing departments by floating as needed. I was glad to float during those years because it increased my experience and knowledge base. I also floated to ICU many times. Medical diseases such as diabetes, respiratory failure, congestive heart failure, AMI, chest pain, arrhythmias, and renal failure are among the diagnoses. I am ventilator competent as well as caring for patients with tracheostomies. Managing the fluid balance of cardiac and renal patients and restoring homeostasis through medication intervention is challenging and makes my career exciting. I love being an RN and helping people back to health. Critical thinking skills are paramount to being an excellent RN. Safety for the patients and best practices to ensure good outcomes are priority for me. Providing excellent nursing care to my patients is highly important to me. Managing the assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation of intervention response requires critical thinking skills and prioritizing. Meeting the needs of my patients and their families is so important to the overall healing of the patient so I constantly keep track of what the issues are and the best way to deal with them. Being able to know when critical events are occurring or about to occur is very important in a good nurse I have been ACLS certified since 1992 and BLS certified since 1978. My RN license is current as are my certifications listed above. I am obtaining my BSN to further my critical thinking skills and my nursing abilities. Obtaining certification for CCRN or PCCN is what I am working toward as well. The areas I have studied for CEU’s are atrial fibrillation, septicemia, and ventilator-associated pneumonia to name a few. Magnet hospitals have the highest respect in my mind since they give the best care and the patients are the focal point of their existence. Good outcomes are necessary for any hospital to flourish and prevention of infection is the first line of defense to obtaining good outcomes Patient safety is first and foremost a necessary activity to maintain. Medication administration, invasive procedures, and managing medical illnesses requires patient safety be kept in the forefront of the nurse’s mind. I have the qualities, knowledge, and desire to obtain good outcomes with every patient I care for. Everything costs money and so does an education. Thus, gainful employment is necessary to obtain my goals. Please consider me for the position of Registered Nurse in your telemetry unit, step-down unit, or ICU. I know you will find that working with me is a delightful event. I am also an excellent patient educator. My patients are always very glad I have educated them about their disease and the methods they need to follow to get as healthy as they can. Patient teaching is a high priority for me as well since educated patients are much more cooperative in managing their health care and status. When the patient is happy, healing is faster. I have had a lot of experience in the last 20 years as an RN and for the 13 years prior to my RN degree; I worked in the acute hospital setting in all departments. Surgical (post-op), medical, mother and baby, even psych units I have worked during all these years. Many years of experience qualify me for the position I seek. Getting the recognition of certification would cement the knowledge base and would be easier to obtain if gainfully employed. Please consider me and let me know what you think. Ramona Wendt .
