Sound waves
Put your finger on your neck and say “aah”
as loud as you can.
Now say it as soft as you can.
You can not only hear the sound, but you
can feel the vibration inside your throat.
Try this:
WHAT IS SOUND?
 So Sound is a kind of energy that can be heard.
 A sound is made when things vibrate.
 Sound is a form of energy that can be heard and travels in
waves.( longitudinal waves).
WHAT IS SOUND?
Sound waves can travel through solids, liquids, or gases.
 Why sound travel faster trough solids?
We can recognize many familiar sound
without seeing the object that producing
them.
 we can differentiate between the voice and
the woman voice.
LOUDNESS OR QUIETNESS
 Volume is the loudness or the quietness of a sound.
 Loud sounds use a lot of energy.
 Soft sounds use a little energy.
 We can make it louder or quitter by changing the amplitude of
the height of the wave.
 The higher the amplitude, the louder the sound. The lower the
amplitude the quitter the sound.
Louder
quitter
PITCH
 Pitch is the highest or lowest sound an object makes.
 When the vibrations are fast you hear a
high pitch. When they’re slow, you hear a low pitch.
 Objects that vibrate slowly, make a low pitch.
 Objects that vibrate quickly, make a higher pitch.
High Pitch Low Pitch
 Sound is a kind of energy that can be heard.
 A sound is made when things vibrate.
 Sound travels in waves.
 Sound must travel through matter to be heard
 Volume is how loud or soft a sound is.
 Pitch is how high or low a sound is.
Summary
What happens when a sound wave meets a hard
flat surface?
 The hearing frequency( audible) is between 20
HZ to 20000 HZ
