Parents and Child
Teachers amongst
themselves
THE IMPORTANCE OF
POSITIVE RELATIONSHIP
It is important to build positive relationship with others
because it will make one happier and more fulfilled
and feel more supported, and connected. This will also
assist them in learning to form satisfying relationships
with others, to communicate, to face challenges, and to
experience and regulate their emotions. (Guzman,
2012)
WAYS PARENTS CAN DEVELOP POSITIVE
RELATIONSHIP WITH CHILDREN
A child is a God’s gift to every family and parents have great responsibility in
caring for their them. Parents also need to invest a lot of time with their
children so that they can share that bond. When parents consistently meet the
needs of children, they will feel that sense of security, safety, comfort and the
ability to rely on their parent(s). A positive adult-child relationship built on
love, trust, understanding, and caring will foster children’s cooperation and
motivation and increase their positive outcomes at school (Webster-Stratton,
1999). Some practical ways are:
 Have a conversation over snack - Here is the where the parent and child
can talk about what transpired during the day, their feeling and their thoughts.
 Provide praise and encouragement – When your child excel, let them
know openly they did well.
Play a game with a child – This is a form of bonding
Pray with each other
Saying sorry when wrong – Saying sorry allows the child to know that you
were wrong and its the right thing that one should do regardless of age
Principles and practices
WAYS TEACHERS CAN DEVELOP
POSITIVE RELATIONSHIP WITH THE
PARENTS
The way a teacher communicate and interact with parents affects the extent and
quality of parents' home involvement with their children's learning. By having
more contact with parents, teachers learn more about students' needs and home
environment, which is information they can apply toward meeting those needs of
the students. Parents also benefit from being involved in their children's
education by getting ideas from the teacher on how to help and support their
children, and know how to help in their weaker areas. Teachers can use some of
these strategies in building relations with the parent like:
 Parent newsletters
 Have a bring your parent to school day,
Workshops for parents
PTA meeting
Phone calls.
These can help bond the teacher and parent to be in unison with the child for his
or her success.
Principles and practices
WAYS TEACHERS CAN DEVELOP
POSITIVE RELATIONSHIP WITH
CHILDREN
Teachers can give and take feedback by doing that it provides an opportunity to tap
into their personal potential and can help to bring and build positive and mutually
relationships. Empathy and understanding is also another way whereby a teacher and
child can build a connection between them. Adults need to invest time and attention
with their children as a precedent to the optimum use of sound behaviour change
strategies. Some practical ways are:
Acknowledge a child’s effort – When a child is shown credibility he or show
more confidence in their work.
Greet every child at the door by name – Making that child feel welcome, make
them feel accepted and the scene of warmth.
 Send positive notes home – The child feels a great amount of accomplishment
know that positive messages is being related to his/ her home.
Ask children to bring in family photos and give them an opportunity to share it
with you and their peers
Principles and practices
WAYS TEACHERS CAN DEVELOP
POSITIVE RELATIONSHIP WITH
TEACHERS
Teachers developing positive relationship with their colleagues creates a
caring and supporting environment for the children to be a part of. It's
vital to deal and confront any issues surrounding teachers. Not only does
these issues bring the team morale down but also creates an unwelcome
environment for both children at the at the school and other teachers.
Some practical ways for developing these relationship are:
Listen and acknowledge ideas and feedback – There are always
different ideas and suggestions that our co-workers may have and its
important not to pass judgement but to discuss ideas and be open about
difference of opinion.
Encourage honest and open communication – It is vital that all staffs
are open and honest. It's best that all staffing issues are dealt with directly
and promptly. All staff should feel comfortable about discussing their
issues and concerns with one another without feeling intimidated.
Offer support and advice – At times fellow staff will need support when
dealing with a parent or need useful advice on a certain topic. It's important to
collaborate with one another and support each other in such circumstances.
Have work parties / outings – To get to know fellow co workers it's a good
idea to have get together this gives you all an opportunity to bring out
everyone's personality and socialize together in a different environment.
