2. ANALYSIS OF PULP’S ‘MIS-SHAPES’
MUSIC VIDEO:
• Throughout the video is a fake live performance of the band. This is used often by
pulp in many music videos and is used to give the idea of going and seeing the
band and referencing their indie feel across the genre.
• Intertextuality has been featured in this video through the use of a visual reference
to the film ‘Billy Liar’. This was a kitchen sink drama a film for a new generation.
Pulp knew you could live this life, experience it first hand. You recognised the
characters, and understood the feelings. So they referenced it in their songs
3. ANALYSIS OF PULP’S ‘MIS-SHAPES’
MUSIC VIDEO:
• Intertextuality has been featured in this video through the use of a visual reference
to the film ‘Billy Liar’. This feature shows that the band is confident about its
knowledge of its listeners, almost expecting them to understand the film reference.
• The use of 1980’s style costumes relates back to Pulp’s musical inspirations and the
fact that the 80’s was when the band started to become popular until it really found
it’s feet in the 90’s.
4. ANALYSIS OF PULP’S ‘MIS-SHAPES’
MUSIC VIDEO:
• The clothing choice would have been to represent the working class lack of money
and the fact they couldn’t afford new clothes and keep up with modern trends and
also not fitting in with modern times.
• Social realism is shown in this video by being partly set in a bar with a live badn and
people getting drunk with the confrontation scene . This sticks very much to the
conventions of pulp and British pop bands of the time.
5. ANALYSIS OF BLUR’S ‘PARK LIFE’ MUSIC
VIDEO:
• The video follows one central character as he drivers around which is intercut with
the band playing around in front of a working class attached houses. Showing a very
working class vibe in the music video.
• The choice of having them break the fourth wall during the car scenes give a very
good opportunity to appiling the lyrics on screen something that we should do in
our music video.
• The scenes outside the houses have the band being very active and playing around
which creates a sense of the audience being on level terms with the band with gives
the audience a feel like there with the band in the video
6. ANALYSIS OF BLUR’S ‘PARK LIFE’ MUSIC
VIDEO:
• The editing of the video is very engaging with the quick cuts between the housing
estates and car keeps the audience engaged.
• Camera has the use of lots of different angels and movements which agains helps
break the sense of segments in the video.
• The music video also references a famous Beatles scene in abbey road on the zeba
crossing which is scene in many brit pop video’s
7. This album advertisement
follows the convention of using
the album artwork as the image
featured on the poster, a good
use of synergy
It works well that the advert
Isn't full of information and if
feel there is a good balance of
text and picture
The date realise at the bottom
shows clearly when the album is
realised as well as featured
singles which I feel works well
as a base of the advert
I like the idea of having the
Main artist on the front of the
Magazine I feel it gives a
Clear message on the brand
And who the product is about
Maybe this is something we
Can do with our Jarvis
And I like the reference
To an early wonder song
“superstition” with the
Writing on the wall behind
Him. It plays well with the
Convention of intertextuality
Between media products
The colour of browns is followed
Throughout the advert
8. The pulp logo is very noticeable
in the pulp font and the name
of the album above and bellow
the logo draws the reader to
the products name and the
band hover you see at the
bottom this is very much about
selling the products and I feel
the bright sun shine yellow
price labels draw attention away
from the products. And the
choice of the person asleep
listening to the music to me
gives the impression that the
music and boring and
something I wouldn’t use in a
advert
I feel like this is an example of
A very late 90’s advert with
The contrasting colours with the
Bright yellows against the blue
With the bright red logo at
The top which clearly shows
Who is adverting the album
Rather than the band it’s the
Shop selling the album.
However its worth looking into
The fact the lead singer said “I
would urge anybody not to buy it.
Please, I find it embarrassing to
be honest. And also the way it's
packaged to look a bit modern.
For me this is an example of how
you can favour selling over the
look of the product
9. This is a AC/DC digi-Pak Highway to Hell’. They
are an Australian hard rock band so the colours
compliment this. With the red and blacks being
the main colours and the fire being a reference
to hell itself and the dark heavy metal feel
Pictures of the band inside the Digipack shows
the self focus on the band and there image.
Included in their Digipack is a booklet
appearing to show information about the band
and may also feature lyrics for the songs on the
album. As well as a good choice of gifts for the
fans such as badges, a pick, a patch all things
that a typical heavy metal fan would wear and
use increasing there Intertextuality and appeal
to fans to buy this.
