3. Introduction
• Red Tacton is a new human area networking
technology that uses the surface of the human body as
a safe, high speed network transmission path.
• Red Tacton uses the minute electric field emitted on
the surfaceof the human body.
• It is developed by japanese technology NTT lab
4. History
• The concept of intra body communication was first
proposed by IBM in 1996.
• The IBM technology had two limitations.
The operating range through the body was limited
to a few tens of centimeters.
The top communication speed was only 40Kbit/s!!
o These limitations were overcome by NIT(Nippon
Telegraph and Telephone Coperation) located in
tokyo,Japan by using Photonic electric field sensors and
finally in 2005 they came up with a HAN technology
called “RED TACTON”
5. What Red Tacton mean?
Red : a warm color to emphasis warm
and cordial communications.
TACTON : TOUCH-ACT-ON
Action triggered by Touching
6. Why Red Tacton?
• The short-range wireless communications namely
Bluetooth and IR have some problems like packet
collision and directionality of beam between the
terminals respectively.
• Human area networks would solve all the problems
including throughput reduction, low security, and
high net-work setup costs.
7. Working Principle
• Red Tacton relies upon the principle that
the optical properties of an electro-optic
crystal can vary according to the changes
of a weak electric field.
8. What does Red Tacton need?
A Transceiver…….
Block Diagram of Transceiver
9. Working Procedure
•Transmitting receiver creates a change in the field
•Some field from human body dissipates into Earth
• electric field is received usind sensing technology
•Receiving transceiver recognizes the changes in the electric
field
•Sensing technology measures the weak electric fields
induced.
•Electro –Optical crystal uses laser to convert and read the
signal.
10. Human Area Network
• In addition to the WANs (Internet) and LANs,
there are applications best served by Human Area
Networks (HANs) that connect the last meter
• Human society is entering an era of ubiquitous
computing, where everything is networked
12. TOUCH
• Touching, gripping, sitting, walking,
stepping and other human movements can
be the triggers for unlocking or locking,
starting or stopping equipment, or
obtaining data
13. BROADBAND &
INTERACTIVE
Bandwidth does not deteriorate even with duplex operation and
simultaneous access by many years!
Duplex communication is possible.
The transmission speed does not deteriorate in
congested areas.
Figures shows difference between wireless LAN and Red Tacton
14. ANY MEDIA
• In addition to the human body, various
conductors and dielectrics can be used as
transmission media. Conductors and dielectrics
may also be used in combination
20. Advantages
•Data transfer is faster and easier through this technology
•Data loss during transfer is less
•Use of minimum amount of power(of some milli volt range)
•Security is more
Disadvantages
•It has no compelling applications
•Too costly
•It can be useful within few centimeters only
21. Conclusion
• We conclude that, when we compare Red Tacton
with other technology present today it can give a
better performance over others
• And we can say that to connect the network with
in short distances Red Tacton is best.
• In this technology there is no problem of hackers
as our body is itself a media.
