This document discusses the roles of various stakeholders in risk communication. It identifies stakeholders such as community groups, local and state health and environmental officials, the EPA, and polluting industries. It describes how community groups represent the community and seek information. Local officials explain health effects, monitor health, and provide instructions. State officials set agendas and coordinate across areas. The EPA explains contamination and exposure pathways. Polluting industries provide knowledge of their processes. Effective risk communication requires a collaborative partnership between these stakeholders.
