  1. 1. The Great Chilling Trading Game
  2. 2. You are the lords and ladies of either the country of Damonia, Ortiziana, or Varitekia. The people of your countries have been inspired by the travels of a young man named Mark Rollo. Rollo has just returned from a country called Chilling. He describes this country as a place of wealth and beauty. He brings back incredible jewels and amazing items. The people of your country are excitedly demanding that your country start trading with the Chills. Do you look into trading with this country? Do you decide not to trade with this country?
  3. 3. Terrible News for your Country! <ul><li>This was a terrible decision! The people of your country hear about the joys of other countries as they benefit from trading with the Chills. </li></ul><ul><li>People are leaving your country. </li></ul><ul><li>You need to start a trade route! </li></ul>
  4. 4. Beginning a Trade Route <ul><li>The journey to Chilling is a 5,000 mile trip. It is very dangerous and covers deserts and mountainous terrain. </li></ul><ul><li>Furthermore, the Matsuzaka empire blocks you from traveling along the main road. </li></ul><ul><li>The Matsuzakans offer to transport items from Chilling to your kingdom, however they will charge you twice the amount that the item costs. </li></ul><ul><li>Do you: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Pay the Matsuzakans the fee and begin a trade route with Chilling? </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Sneak into Matsuzakan territory and establish a secret route? </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Forget this! We’re not paying any fee, will be fine on our own. </li></ul></ul>
  5. 5. Bad Move!!! <ul><li>You secret force was captured by the Matsuzakans. You country is at risk of war with a very powerful army. You will need to wait a few years before you can trade with the Matsuzakans again. </li></ul><ul><li>Do you - </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Send your ambasadors to the Matsuzakans and hope they can make peace? </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Forget them! We’ll be happy at home with out them . </li></ul></ul>

You Begin Trading <ul><li>Your country benefits from trading with Chilling. </li></ul><ul><li>Your people are happy </li></ul><ul><li>The economy is benefiting from the interest in Chillian goods </li></ul><ul><li>However, recently, the Franconians have signed an agreement with the Matsuzakans that they will ONLY trade with them. </li></ul><ul><li>Now in order to get Chilling goods, you need to pay the Franconians an additional fee. Now the price is tripled!!! </li></ul><ul><li>Here are your choices. </li></ul>

Unfortunate Choice <ul><li>While your country stays the same, other countries benefit from the new trade route. </li></ul><ul><li>Your citizens start emigrating to other countries. </li></ul><ul><li>Other countries do not want to trade with you because you have nothing to offer. </li></ul><ul><li>You need to begin a trade route. </li></ul>
  8. 8. Do You? <ul><ul><li>Pay the fee. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Refuse to pay the fee. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Try and find a Sea Route to Chilling </li></ul></ul>

Tough Choice <ul><li>The Franconian fee is making them very wealthy and you very poor. </li></ul><ul><li>Your people demand the Chilling products, but your economy can’t afford to pay the Franconians. </li></ul><ul><li>You will need to risk the seas and try and find another route to Chilling . </li></ul>
  10. 10. Economy Collapses!!! <ul><li>While the rest of the world is benefiting from this trade route, your country is not. </li></ul><ul><li>You need to brave the seas and try and find another trade route. </li></ul>
  11. 11. You Set Sail!! <ul><li>This is a very risky move.   12. 12. Pirates!!! <ul><li>Your ship is attacked by pirates. Everything is lost! You’ll need to rebuild, retrain, and send another ship next year. </li></ul>
  13. 13. Storm!!!! <ul><li>Your fleet is lost in a terrible storm! </li></ul><ul><li>You will need to rebuild, retrain, and sail again next year . </li></ul>
  14. 14. Lost at Sea!! <ul><li>Your fleets captain has not perfected the use of this new invention - the magnetic compass. </li></ul><ul><li>He drifts far off course and the crew starves to death. </li></ul><ul><li>You’ll need to rebuild, retrain, and sail again next year. </li></ul>
  15. 15. Disease!!! <ul><li>A terrible tropical disease moves through your fleet. Sailors fall sick and die. They’ll need to return to port and sail again next year. </li></ul>
  16. 16. You Find Land!! <ul><li>You find a new land </li></ul><ul><li>You establish a new city and port </li></ul><ul><li>You can trade with the native people from this land and use the port to continue to find a route to Chilling. </li></ul>
  17. 17. You Set Sail Again! <ul><li>Now that you are not making longer journeys from your country, the dangers are less risky. </li></ul><ul><li>Roll the Dice: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>#1-2 </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>#3-4 </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>#5-6 </li></ul></ul>
  18. 18. You Find CHILLING!!! <ul><li>Good fortune has shined upon you! </li></ul><ul><li>You have found an all water route to Chilling! </li></ul><ul><li>The Franconians fear you! </li></ul><ul><li>You are now the dominant power in the world! </li></ul>
  19. 19. Sea Monster Attack! <ul><li>A large animal from the depths of the ocean crushes your boats and your men are lost at sea! </li></ul><ul><li>You will need to rebuild and sail again next year. </li></ul>
