Bridge Fight Board by Daniel Johnson dtjohnsonart.com
Task five photo
1. Over the next two weeks you will be taking a new shoot/s but also taking your work a little further by creating some
experimental work. This is an opportunity to be highly creative and conceptual.
2. Edward Muybridge
Photographing a daily routine and
presenting it as a series of shots
can bring new thoughts on an
activity that might seem otherwise
mundane.
Can you use your camera skills to
shoot an every day routine but
bring a new vision to the details
with your camera and the way you
use lighting, composition and
texture.

3. Kirsten Lewis/ Loyd Degran: - what is the
photo telling you about the story behind the people in
it?
4. Carie Mae: at different times
Can you choose a space in the house and photograph it at different
times of day to show its multi uses- telling the story/narrative of the
space (or piece of furniture like this kitchen table in Mae’s work).
5. Text & Image
Photograph your day/week
Present creatively:
• Powerpoint - you could photograph some written work to present with
your images or type up your thoughts
• Print images off and present creatively
Write on paper and use it in
your shot. You could also
type on your photos in
Powerpoint. You could print
and write on/beside your
photo

6. Duane
Michals
Michals's work makes innovative use of ,
often incorporating text to examine emotion and philosophy.
A collection of photos presented together can
change and impact their narrative and story. Using
photos from last weeks shoot (or take new ones)
present a collection of images together to create
narrative/meaning/a story.
This is highly conceptual and open to the viewers
interpretation, but be sure to annotate your own
thoughts on your collection.
8. There are many online apps for animating your
photos/sequences. You may wish to use some
of your photos to create an animation. If you
are experienced in the world of video making,
you could even experiment with adding sound.
You can also create animations using Power
point. To do this you simply create a slide show
and ensure your slide transitions are fast. This is
a simple but effective animation. Loop your
slide show.
You could make a GIF or a selection of GIFs
from your photos.

9. 1. Continue the following tasks on your Powerpoint called ‘Photography Influences and Skills (with your name)’ Make sure the
Powerpoint is set to A3.
2. Take a shoot exploring ‘Narrative and/or Routine’ using your chosen Artists to influence your theme. Present this on a series of
power point slides including contact sheets with analysis and at least three enlargements (if you have facilities these could be edited a little
on photoshop (no worries if not though).
3. Choose at least one of these developmental tasks to complete using your shoot – please remember there is no right or wrong
way, be creative and experimental and use annotation to evidence you are being thoughftul about what you are doing:
a) Select images from your shoot/s to present as a series on a slide. Experiment with different layouts and orders (at least 3 on
three different slides). You might choose to have several in a row, or four in a square. Imagine you are deciding on the display
for a gallery wall. Evaluate the different options you create justifying your favourite choice. (inspiration from Wolfgang
Tillmans, Duane Michals and Carie Mae or you might research your own)
b) Create an animation or a GIF (inspiration from Edward Muybridge or Sam Taylor Wood)
c) If you have a printer you could try to create a flip book animation. (inspiration from Edward Muybridge or Sam Taylor Wood)
d) Create a visual diary of a day. This can be presented digitally on Powerpoint or you may choose to print the images (if you
have a printer) and create something more tactile.
