  2. 2. Hysterectomy<br />A hysterectomy is the surgical removal of the uterus.<br />Each year in the US doctors perform approximately 600,000 hysterectomies.<br />
  3. 3. Types of hysterectomies<br />Partial Hysterectomy<br />Total Hysterectomy<br />Radical Hysterectomy<br />
  4. 4. Reasons and options<br />Women might need a hysterectomy for different reasons such as:<br />Cancer of the Uterus, Cervix or Ovaries<br />Uterine fibroids, Endometrioses, Adenomyosis<br />Abnormal vaginal bleeding<br />Chronic pelvic pain<br />

Gynecologist<br />A gynecologist is a doctor who specializes in dealing with the health of the female reproductive system and sexual health care.<br />One of their main jobs is to perform yearly exams of the uterus, vagina and pelvis.<br />Many gynecologists are also obstricians, helping women who are having reproductive issues.<br />They do not aid in labor and delivery, but can perform cesarean section, induce labor and prescribe birth control options as well as birth control procedures.<br />
  6. 6. Labor and Deliverystages<br />Stage 1- The cervix dialates<br />Stage 2- The baby is born<br />Stage 3- The placenta is delivered<br />

Stage 1 <br />the bag of water breaks<br />The cervix will dialate and thin out<br />This stage typically begins when a mom is 4 cm dialated, women will dialate until 10 cm.<br />Contractions occur frequently every 2-3minutes lasting 50-70 seconds<br />This is when most women will report intense pain as the cervix streches and the baby decends through the birth canal<br />

Stage 2<br />Pushing the baby through the vagina is the second stage. <br />Incase of complications c-sections are performed.<br />Some mothers push for a few minutes, some for several hours.<br />The labor nurse or physician will tell you when it is time to push. It is important not push until instructed. <br />The baby will take its first breath<br />The cord is clamped and cut. <br />
  9. 9. Stage 3<br />The third stage of labor is when the placenta detaches and passes out the body<br />The passage of the placenta is a vital part off labor and delivery<br />
