  1. 1. Elements of Art DOTS
  2. 2. The dot is the simplest element of drawing. It’s the smallest unit we can draw. Its first target is to indicate a position. These dots can be big or small, in color or in black and white, thick, or thin; They can be drawn next or very far to others. They can also be drawn so big that they are considered circles.
  3. 3. • There are two types of dots: geometric dot and graphic dot. • Geometric dot: is the point where two straight lines cross each other and is used in Technical Drawing, and we call it point. • Graphic dot: is the simplest element used in drawing shapes.
  4. 4. When a dot is connected or related to other dots, it becomes an element of expression that can create compositions. We can use dots to colour the objects and to give them shape, volume and a sense of depth.
  5. 5. A colour is uniform if dots are at an equal distance from each other. If the dots are closer together, the colour is more intense than if they are further apart. Dots that are close together (concentration) make darker areas; dots that are further apart (dispersion)make lighter ones.
  6. 6. The dot three- dimensional capacity • A feeling of depth can be achieve by overlapping dots, varying its size, color, texture an location.
  7. 7. Volume using dots
  8. 8. More examples
  9. 9. OPTICAL MIX • It happens when colours are mixed with the help of distance. • Paint is not mixed on the palette or on the painting. • The optical mix was used first by the pointillist.
  10. 10. All the images and pictures in the newspapers, the TV and in your computer are made by dots
  11. 11. In the next slide show we will see how dots have been used in Art and new ways of making art with them.
