Key Issue: How do enterprises develop an e-business strategy? The final articulation of the e-business strategy starts with the candidate e-business model(s). These models articulate likely risk/reward trade-offs, return on investment, product offerings and associated pricing, reach and market acceptability. Business and technology delivery capability metrics are brought into the decision-making process as a result of the readiness assessment. These metrics assist with the definition and ranking of the strategic competencies required for each candidate business model. Finally, a candidate business model is chosen and an e-business strategy that addresses its path to delivery is articulated. Key Issue Analysis Source: GartnerGroup
Key Issue: How do enterprises develop an e-business strategy? To articulate an achievable e-business strategy, an organization must know where it stands with respect to key technology and business process delivery. This examination is driven by the contents of the candidate e-business models. The readiness assessment is a high-level analysis of the company’s ability to deliver core competencies required in many e-business contexts. Operational areas that should be examined from a process, system and technology perspective include fulfillment, customer relationship management and EDI/external business integration. Aspects of the technology delivery organization that should be examined are its application development capability, and the maturity and repeatability of its application development process. Additional technology delivery aspects to be examined include Web hosting/data center process and infrastructure, architecture specification maturity and enforcement, application integration capabilities, and the ability to handle advanced information-heavy applications (data warehouse, object-oriented databases, rule-based data transformation engines and high-volume transaction processing systems). Tactical Guideline A readiness assessment that considers an organization’s business process and technology delivery capabilities leads to an achievable e-business strategy. Source: GartnerGroup
