3. SIMILARITIES - USING NICK LACEY’S
REPERTOIRE OF ELEMENTS:
Most of the posters use dark colours, mainly black, to show the genre of the film and give a
hint at what the narrative might be. Most also have either just an image of one character, or
one character in the centre which is focused on the most. This shows who the film is focused
on. Having a dominant male and an innocent female is a theme that runs through most of the
posters too, and most of the posters have the characters looking straight forward directly into
the camera. The characters are mainly situated in the middle, and the settings for the films
aren’t really given off in any of the posters. All of the posters have simple bold writing for the
title, so that it stands out and shows the genre of film.
4. DIFFERENCES – USING NICK LACEY’S
REPERTOIRE OF ELEMENTS
The poster for ‘Freaks’, ‘Sound of my Voice’ and ‘The Master’ all use bright colours, which
differs from the usual dark colours. This could be to stand out and show that their film has a
unique selling point. A few of the posters have more than one character in, possibly showing
more than one main character in the films. The ‘Blue Steel’ poster has a scene from the film in
the background, which is unique to this poster as this feature is not on any of the other cult
film posters.
