  1. 1. PHOTOSHOOT RECCE By Megan Sheraton
  2. 2. Are there any potential hazards that could pose a health and safety risk where your Photoshoot will take place? The images I will be taking for my magazine will be taken at various sports grounds in Seaham, such as Dawdon Cricket Club, but as the grounds are out the way of any main roads there it will be unlikely there is any health risks to my models or my myself. The environment will be suitable for my genre of magazine as I will be able to get photos from the actual games as well as individual shots. The only condition would be the weather permitting but I will check the weather every day leading up to taking my photos to ensure we get the best weather possible. The main risk though would be the flash from the camera in case one of my models has epilepsy which could make them have a seizure.
  3. 3. What will you do to ensure these risks are minimized? In terms of the flash, it is important to ask all of my models about there health in case they have epilepsy for instance and I could then adjust the camera to ensure they weren't at risk of a seizure. I will also let my models have breaks when necessary so that they don’t work to hard and become ill.
  4. 4. Will the time of day or weather effect the outcome of your photos? The weather will play a huge factor in the quality of my photos as they will all be shot outside. This will be a little difficult as I am organizing my photoshoot for the autumn/winter months when the weather is quite unpredictable and starts to get quite dark quickly. I need to avoid weather that includes rain, high winds or snow as these conditions will darken my images and make them less appealing to the reader. In order to make sure I choose the best day possible for my shoot I will check the weather repots every day leading up to the photoshoot. I will also take my photos between 12- 3pm as these are the brightest times of the day and will achieve maximum sunlight in my chosen area.
  5. 5. Have you considered your background of photos, especially ones taken outdoors? As all of my photos are taken outdoors I will use the specific grounds as my backdrop such as the football field or cricket fields I will be using for my photoshoot. I will do this because my theme is a sports magazine so it would fit in well and would engage my readers more than if it was an artificial background that I had manipulated. Also if I manipulate my backgrounds it wouldn’t look professional.
  6. 6. Have you considered lighting problems and choices? I need to rely on the natural lighting which can be a major problem depending on what time of day the images are taken. Outdoors, I will be taking the images with the sun behind the camera so it acts as an artificial light and doesn't’t block the model or building. A really good feature of my camera is that you can alter the settings depending on where I am taking the image and what I am photographing. If I put the settings on an outdoor setting, portrait and alter the brightness, I can change the image slightly to make the perfect environment even before I take the photo.
  7. 7. Do you need permission to take photos her, do you need to book? ◦ Even though the images I will be taking are at various sporting grounds, they are public places so I wont need permission to take the photographs and I wont need to book to use them either. These locations are free to visit and are accessible to anyone. Unless there is a no photography sign, most cultural buildings and sports grounds allow you to take photos of the outsides and of the initial matches as long as you aren't copyrighting and publishing work of theirs.
  8. 8. Are other people likely to be an issue or a distraction? It is likely that locals will be walking around or standing watching the match itself at the same time. If people are passing, I will wait until they have moved out of the way and make sure I don’t get other people in the shot. If necessary, I can explain my project to people and politely ask them to step to the side for a few moments.
  9. 9. Will you be reliant on any lifts, props or models? I am relying on my models to turn up to the photoshoot as the correct time and day and if for whatever reason they cannot do this I will have to reschedule the shoot, or in the worst case scenario find a new model. I doubt this will be the case as I will receive confirmation from my model multiple times so that they are fully aware of the shoots. As both of my models are my friends, I will arrange to pick them up from their houses so that we can all get there at the same time and not waste time waiting for public transport or waiting on each other. We all live within 10 minutes of each other and the sports grounds so it will be easy to get there. I am relying on my models to bring their own cricket bats etc as they both play sports in their spare time and already have the necessary equipment.
  10. 10. Finally, have you thought of every eventuality? ◦ I feel I have covered most scenarios and problems that could arise and definitely have back up plans to make sure my photoshoot remains successful.
