My neighborhood was racially diverse, including Caucasian, African American, Greek, and Pakistani people. From a young age, my family and friends taught me that all people should be treated equally, as I would want to be treated. While race has shaped how I view people as equals, it has taught me to consider others' perspectives and treat all people with equal respect.

How racially diverse was your neighborhood?
My neighborhood was quite diverse in my opinion. We had a lot of caucasian people,
yes, but we had other people too. I remember African Americans, Greek, and Pakistani people as
well.
What message about race have you received from your family, friends, and schools as you
grew up?
Since I was young, my family had always told me and it was just understood that people
should be treated equal or the way that you would want to be treated. The same went for and still
goes for my friends, they’ve had the same idea about race, that we’re all equal, or deserve to be
treated as such.
How has race shaped your life?
This is sort of a tough question for me, but in my opinion, race has shaped the way I look
at people. It’s taught me to look at other people as equals, and treat them how I would want to be
if I were in their position.
