6. President’s Message
September 8, 2011
On behalf of the National Black MBA Association, Inc., Washington, D.C. Chapter, I would like
to welcome you to the 2011 Pre-Conference Career Expo Presented by Choice Hotels! We are
excited about today's event and trust that it will serve as a valuable component of your career
search and professional development.
As we prepare for next month's NBMBAA Annual Conference and Exposition in Atlanta, the
Career Expo will provide you an advanced opportunity to meet with many of our local corporate
partners who are actively hiring in the Washington DC metro area. If you are attending
conference for the first time, or just need to develop a game plan for conference success, we will
provide strategies and tips for navigating the conference.
For those unable to attend the National Conference, the Career Expo will give you an
opportunity to experience a taste of the networking and professional development activities that
the Conference has to offer. If you are looking for additional ways to distinguish yourself in the
job market, we will provide overviews of some of the professional certifications that employers
are seeking in candidates. Finally, if you are looking to develop a vision for your professional
success, we will provide guidance for creating a vision board.
I would like to thank all of our exhibiting companies, panelists, and attendees for participating in
the Career Expo. I would like to extend a special thanks to Choice Hotels, our Title Partner, for
making this event possible. I would also like to acknowledge Allstate, our Exhibit Room Partner,
as well as U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, our Plenary Session Room Partner.
Finally, I would like to thank Candice Charles, VP of Membership, and Thomas Telahun, Career

Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA)
http://www.fhfa.gov/Default.aspx?Page=9
The Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) was created on July 30, 2008, when the President signed into law the
Housing and Economic Recovery Act of 2008. The Act gave FHFA the authorities necessary to oversee vital
components of our country’s secondary mortgage markets – Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and the Federal Home Loan
Banks. In addition, this law combined the staffs of the Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight (OFHEO),
the Federal Housing Finance Board (FHFB), and the GSE mission office at the Department of Housing and Urban
Development (HUD). With a very turbulent market facing our nation, the strengthening of the regulatory and
supervisory oversight of the 14 housing-related GSEs is imperative. FHFA's mission is to provide effective
supervision, regulation and housing mission oversight of Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and the Federal Home Loan
Banks to promote their safety and soundness, support housing finance and affordable housing, and support a stable
and liquid mortgage market. As of September 2010, the combined debt and obligations of these GSEs totaled $6.7
trillion, which is $2.7 trillion below the total publicly held debt of the USA. Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae also
purchased or guaranteed 65% of new mortgage originations. Considering the impact of these GSEs on the U.S.
economy and mortgage market, it is critical that we intensify our focus on oversight of Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac,
and the Federal Home Loan Banks.
16. Freddie Mac

and economic crisis, and implementing the President’s Making Home Affordable program. A vital component in the
secondary mortgage market, Freddie Mac has made homeownership and rental housing more accessible and more
affordable for one in six homebuyers and more than five million renters.
