I. OBJECTIVE
Tell the different taste of the food.
Tell how to take care of our tongue.
II. SUBJECT MATTER
A. Topic: The Tongue

C. Materials Different food, pictures, chart
D. Science Concept: The tongue has special kinds of nerve cells that can sense the
taste of food whether it is sour, sweet, bitter or salty.
When the tongue has an ailment, it cannot function well.
E. Value Focus: Caring for our tongue.
III. PROCEDURE:
A. Preparatory Activities:
1. Sing a song for an energizer
2. Review: The Nose
3. Motivation
Asking what are the foods they have seen on the table.
Say: Which of these do you like? Why?
B. Developmental Lesson
1. Presentation:
a. Get these: ampalaya, sugar, vinegar, salt, teaspoons and handkerhief.
Get a partner, blindfold him/her.
2. (The teacher will let them wash their hands, the teaspoon, and the bitter melon
property. Keep clean before doing the activities.)
Put a small amount of sugar on the tongue of his partner using the teaspoon.
(Tell not to chew or close his mouth. Then they ask their partner.)
What is it? How does it taste? Then try to observe it he I able to identify the
sugar.
They do the same with bitter melon, vinegar and salt.
Exchange place. Allow his/her partner to do the activity on you.
(After doing activity the teacher will ask what did they discover)
The teacher will write down on the board all the ideas from the children.
Say: the tongue has special kinds of nerve cells that can sense the tastes of
food of different taste like: sour, bitter, salty and sweet depending of the food they eat.
(The teacher should emphasize the four different tastes)
Present a picture of person who has an aliment of their tongue.

3. Get some food.
Eat the food without moving your tongue.
Chew and swallow the food without moving your tongue.
Ask: Were you able to eat your food?
Were you able to chew the food properly?
When does this happen?
What can you do to prevent this?
Show a picture of proper caring of a tongue.
Generalization:
What sense organ that we are going to use in tasting the food?
What are the different tastes?
How should we take care of our tongue
IV. Evaluation
Write S if the food is sweet, write B if it is bitter, write Sr if it is sour, write Sl if it is salty.
