4. History & Overview
• State Engineering University of Armenia (SEUA) is legal successor of Yerevan
Polytechnic Institute (YPI) which was founded in 1933 having only 2
departments and 107 students.
• In 1980-1985 reached its peak with about 25000 students and more than 66
majors, becoming the largest higher education institution in Armenia.
• On November 29, 1991, the Yerevan Polytechnic Institute was reorganized and
renamed State Engineering University of Armenia (SEUA).
• In 2005, by the Resolution of the RA Government the traditional name
“Polytechnic” was returned to the University as an acronym.
• At present over 10 thousand students following 4 degree programs, more
than100 foreign students studying in English and Armenian language groups.
5. History & Overview
• The academic staff of the University exceeds 800, most of them with Degrees of
Candidate or Doctor of Science.
• The Central Campus of the University is located in Yerevan and the Branch
Campuses – in cities Gyumri, Vanadzor and Kapan.
• 4 study programs of vocational and higher education conferring the
qualification degrees of Junior Specialist, Bachelor, Master and Researcher
(PhD) in Engineering.
• The University has affiliated high schools in Yerevan and Regional Campuses,
aimed at recruiting future gifted students from schools.
• With its developed research system and infrastructure the University is
nationally recognized as the leading center in technical sciences and
technologies.

9. Leading Role in the Reformations of
the Higher Education System of
Armenia:
• SEUA was the first HEI in RA that introduced two (in 1993) and then
three (in 1995) levels of higher and post-higher education,
• Implemented a credit system (in 2004) compatible with the
European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) in harmony with the
Bologna Process developments.
During the last decade, the University has developed an extended
network of international cooperation including many leading EU
universities and research centers.
10. International Activity of SEUA
The University is a member of:

was and is involved in:
many European and other international research and educational programs
(TACIS, Tempus, Erasmus-Mundus, DAAD, USAID, OSF, NISCUPP,

12. The main strengths of SEUA
• SEUA (former Yerevan Polytechnic Institute) is the indisputable
leader in technical education of RA

13. Faculty of Applied Mathematics
and Physics
• SEUA Faculty of Applied Mathematics and Physics was established in 1992 by
uniting University's 3 chairs of Higher Mathematics. Academician of National
Academy of Sciences Prof. Vanik Zakaryan is the founder Dean of the Faculty.
• One of the top centers of Mathematics and Physics in the country;
• Is the biggest faculty in the University having more than 90 full-time faculty
members (12 professors and 48 associate professors);
• Our student body consists of approximately 200 majors (all programs) and more
than 3000 minors.
• Graduates from our programs have gone on to successful careers in industry,
business, as well as every aspect of science, computer science, technology
and, of course, mathematics.
14. Programs Offered
• Bachelor’s in Informatics and Applied Mathematics;
• Bachelor’s in Applied Mathematics and Physics;
• Masters’ Informatics and Applied Mathematics;
• PhD in Mathematics;
• In addition to these major programs, our Faculty caters to the mathematics
and physics subsidiary (minor) courses in other BS and MS programs of the
University with specialties in Engineering, Industrial Economics and
Management . Our department, also, renders services of its full-time faculty
to teach elective courses of mathematics MS and PhD programs.
15. Chairs
The Faculty of Applied Mathematics and Physics has 3 Chairs:
• Chair of Specialized Mathematical Education (Responsible for the major
specialties of the Faculty and Research);
• Chair of Generalized Mathematical Education (Responsible for the
mathematical minor course of the Universities non mathematical Specialties
as well as for teaching mathematics courses in other programs and
departments);
• Chair of Physics (Responsible for the major and minor courses of Physics).
