INTRODUCTION
As part of B.ED. Curriculum we have to conduct a conscientization program in
the school. So I with my two companions MerinDruz and Gifty Hillary
conducted conscientization program on drug addiction in the class 7D.
Conscientization means consciousness raising and critical consciousness.
Conscientization is the process by which one develops the ability to think
critically about issues of power in relationship to privilege and oppression in
different spheres of influence. The development of understanding and
awareness of one’s position in social, political, economic, cultural and historical
contexts, with a particular emphasis on a critical understanding of one’s position
in power, privilege and oppression. Drug addiction is a complex neurobiological
disease that requires integrated treatment of the mind, body and spirit. It is
considered a brain disease because drugs can change the brain they change its
structure and how it works. Without treatment, these brain changes can be long-
lasting. Addiction is chronic, it is progressive and if left untreated, it can be
fatal. Individuals struggling with drug addiction often feels as though they
cannot function normally without their drug choice. This can lead to a wide
range of issues that impact professional goals, personal relationships and overall
health. Overtime, these serious side effects can be progressive and if left
untreated fatal.
OBJECTIVES
 Develop awareness to identify the biological environmental, behavioural
and social causes and consequences of drug use and addiction across the
life span.
 Develop an awareness about the disorder made by the use of substance.
 Make the students to take solution of not to use drugs.

PROCEDURE
Conscientization is the process by which one develops the ability to think
critically about various issues. It conveys the idea of developing strengthening
and changing consciousness.
I have given the permission letter to the vice principle Sivakami mam for
the purpose of conducting the conscientization program for the 7D students of
Christ Nagar Senior Secondary School. The topic for my conscientization
program was “An Awareness to Drug Addiction”. It was conducted on 11-1-
2019. The class was given in the third period.
First Gifty gave introduction about the awareness of the drug addiction.
What is the need to know about drug addiction? We showed a power point
presentation. Then she taught about drug and its definition and about addiction.
What are the causes for drug addiction? Next I taught names of some top drugs
and the side effects and consequence of drug addiction then I taught whatthe
health issues because of drug addiction are and what all the effect on the brain
are. Next I taught about the behavioural problems after the use of drugs. Third
part was done by MerinDruz she taught how can we overcome the drug
addiction for that we can be close to the families, friends and relatives and
always occupy our mind with fresh thought and do the activities in which we
hwve more interest.

IMPACT OF CONSCIENTIZATION
PROGRAM
Majority of drug abuse among youth starts in schools. Thereforeschool
population is the best place for early detection and prevention. Once it start up
many persons change into a habit because of euphoric feeling they give, due to
sedation and become drug addict. Even if they want to get rid of their habits, the
withdrawal syndromes never allows them to do so. Through this
conscientization we got a feedback from the part of the students. In their
opinion they got an effective information about drugs abuse. They said that the
power point presentation is also good. On the whole the class was informative
and students got a clear idea about the topic. All the students became aware of
the problems faced by drug addiction. We succeeded in conveying the topic
more effective way.
CONCLUSION
In this present scenario drug addiction is the best topic to give awareness only
if the students are aware about the effect of drug addiction in human being, they
will not use. Most of the students in their school life they start to use the drugs.
So it was the right time to give awareness and all the children were
listeningcarefully. We all did an awareness to them not to use any drugs in their
life.
