GOVERNMENT WORK ETHICS
• ETHICS
• In the context of Philippine government, the highest standards of ethics are
embodied in Republic Act No. 6713 or the Code of Conduct and Ethical
Standards for Public Officials and Employees. RA 6713 also bears the eight
(8) norms of conduct – commitment to public interest, professionalism,
justness and sincerity, political neutrality, responsiveness to the public,
nationalism and patriotism, commitment to democracy, and simple living.
These norms of conduct govern the principle of ethics for the lingkod
bayani who works in an environment where corruption thrives. The same
norms promote the idea that even in the smallest of matters, a lingkod
bayani should be able to withstand temptation, reject mediocrity, and
protect his or her integrity.
•INTEGRITY
•Integrity, also known as moral uprightness and strong
adherence to honesty and fairness, is closely linked to
ethics. Integrity also refers to wholeness and completeness.
This is an important definition and well worth thinking over.
We hear expressions such as “the integrity of the exam” or
the “the integrity of the document”, which means
something remains untainted, and was not tampered with
or altered. When a person commits something unethical, in
a sense he or she also loses his or her wholeness. There is
damage already done to a person’s character.
• ACCOUNTABILITY FOR GOOD GOVERNANCE
• We always hear the phrase “public office is a public trust”.
pakinabang. Lagi kong isasaalang-alang ang interes ng nakararami
bago ang sarili kong kapakanan.”
• Working in government is different because we are not only looking
out for ourselves or for our organization. Our focus is delivering
services for the benefit of our main clientele—the Filipino people. We
are primarily here to serve, and not to be served.

GENERAL
WORK ETHICS
What
is
Work
Ethic?
Work Ethic is a set of standards of
behaviour and beliefs regarding what
is and isn’t acceptable to do at work
Work Ethic can be strong (good) or poor (bad). It
depends on personal views of employees, their
motivation, and overall company culture
A Strong Work Ethic is an attitude, an employer
applies to their work that indicates a high level
of passion for the work they do!
A Bad Work Ethic is an attitude that an employee
demonstrates that shows a lack of ambition and
professionalism in the workplace
Let us watch this video on
General Work Ethics
Characteristics of Praise-Worthy Employees
Reliability
Dedication
Productivity
Cooperation Integrity
Responsibility
Professionalism
Discipline
Reliability
Employees with a strong work ethic are very
reliable. You can expect these individuals to be on
time for shifts and meetings. They meet their
deadlines and offer quality work. A reliable co-
worker makes an excellent teammate because
they contribute fairly to projects.
Dedication
Part of a good work ethic is commitment and
dedication to the job. They know how to focus on
tasks without being distracted. These employees
usually work until they finish their duties. They
stay with one company for long periods of time.
Discipline
is an essential part of showing a good work ethic.
Highly disciplined employees show determination
and commitment to the job. They strive to meet
or exceed expectations and seek opportunities to
learn new skills and improve their performance
Productivity
A strong work ethic translates to outstanding
productivity. Productive employees often
have a higher output than their counterparts.
They complete projects early and do more
than the minimum requirements.
Cooperation
A good work ethic is something that
employees often spread to those around
them by cooperating willingly on projects.
They show good teamwork and readily assist
others when needed
Integrity
Professional integrity means holding oneself
to high moral principles. Those with a strong
work ethic also have outstanding integrity.
They’re honest, polite and fair to others.
Responsibility
Demonstrating strong work ethic requires a keen
sense of responsibility. Those who are ethical and
responsible hold themselves accountable for their
actions. They will accept the blame for errors
they’ve contributed to and proactively work to fix
these issues.
Professionalism
Employees with a good work ethic almost always
maintain their professionalism. They exhibit a
professional attitude clear in the way they dress,
speak and carry themselves. They’re respectful,
focused, organized and neat.
Ways to Demonstrate Work Ethics
Put away things that might distract from your work, such as your cell phone
Ask trusted colleagues or mentors to help you identify areas for improvement
and set SMART goals
Spend your time wisely on tasks that align with your goals and prioritize tasks
by impact
Organize your notes, email inbox, and workspaces for increased focus,
motivation and time management
Ways to Demonstrate Work Ethics
Take breaks throughout the day and practice a healthy work/life balance to
avoid burnout
Identify aspects of your work that motivate you such as tasks, goals or
colleagues
Practice time management to complete quality, on-time work and to be more
present during meetings

advertising practices, and product quality.
• Employer ethics, which encompasses hiring practices, fair treatment of
employees, and development of employee guidelines.
• Sexual harassment ethics, which includes issues stemming from unwanted
sexual advances and discrimination based on gender.
• Diversity ethics, which involves situations related to race, religion, and cultural
differences.
Bad Work ethic?
• Poor attendance, including repeated absences, leisurely lunches, and
early departures
• Procrastination, or continually waiting until the last minute to begin
an important project or complete a task
• Wasting time, or spending excessive time engaging in office gossip,

RA 6713 also bears the eight (8) norms of conduct – commitment to public interest, professionalism, justness and sincerity, political neutrality, responsiveness to the public, nationalism and patriotism, commitment to democracy, and simple living. These norms of conduct govern the principle of ethics for the lingkod bayani who works in an environment where corruption thrives. The same norms promote the idea that even in the smallest of matters, a lingkod bayani should be able to withstand temptation, reject mediocrity, and protect his or her integrity.
  • 7. •INTEGRITY •Integrity, also known as moral uprightness and strong adherence to honesty and fairness, is closely linked to ethics. Integrity also refers to wholeness and completeness. This is an important definition and well worth thinking over. We hear expressions such as “the integrity of the exam” or the “the integrity of the document”, which means something remains untainted, and was not tampered with or altered. When a person commits something unethical, in a sense he or she also loses his or her wholeness. There is damage already done to a person’s character.
  • 8. • ACCOUNTABILITY FOR GOOD GOVERNANCE • We always hear the phrase “public office is a public trust”. • Working in government is different because we are not only looking out for ourselves or for our organization. Our focus is delivering services for the benefit of our main clientele—the Filipino people. We are primarily here to serve, and not to be served.
