Marilia Coutinho has majored in Biology (1985), holds a M.Sc. degree in Chemical Ecology (1989) and a Ph.D. in Sociology of Science (1994), all obtained at the University
of Sao Paulo, Brazil. She was a post-doctoral fellow at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (1997) and a visiting scholar at the University of Florida (1998-2000).
She has peer-reviewed scientific papers published in different countries on the sociology of the life sciences and hundreds of articles on physical activity, strength sports, body
image, physical education and nutrition, mostly on the web. Marilia Coutinho is currently owner of the consultancy company Merton MZM-BodyStuff, speaker in strength sports
and training, and sports media director. She is the President of the Aliança Nacional da Força (National Strength Alliance). Marilia Coutinho is a high performance powerlifter,
representative for the International Powerlifting League (IPL) and World Powerlifting Congress (WPC). She is an accredited strength training professional in Brazil (CREF
059869-P/SP ).
