Introducing BSSG

Data management requires a very special skillset. Data management necessitates IT skills to understand data operations, flows, and technology stack. It calls for the ability to engage and understand strategic business logic and needs. It requires an appreciation of legal and security concerns. It demands an understanding of data, a valuable but much-misunderstood asset, must be managed. And, above all, it requires a passion for data. We cannot offers consultants who check all the boxes, but as an agency, we do have the range of skills across our 60 data engineers and consultants to take on even the most challenging enterprise-level projects.

Since our first client, P&G, in 2005, we have had the privilege to work with some prestigious firms, leaders in their sectors. Those sectors have included everything from FMCG & Retail, Banking & Insurance, Oil & Gas, and manufacturing. We have implemented complex data technology stocks that have become case studies for major partners such as IBM, advised leading brands on their journey to digital transformation, and developed data strategies at the national level. We are genuinely proud of our team's achievements and look forward to new and ever greater challenges.

  2. 2. Plugging the Data Management Skills Gap Data management requires a very special skillset. 3. 3. Service Areas Data Management Consulting We review and assess organisations’ data policies, practices, and processes so as to provide recommendations on how to achieve higher data quality and usage. We might improve data models, recommend options to optimise business processes, develop data governance policies, or implement data management standards. A project might involve identifying how the user interface of a form, a glossary, or even an organisation’s overall architecture leads to low data quality or failing to reflect business realities. Data Engineering Projects We offer the software skills to build, modify, and integrate the master data management systems needed to ensure organisations can govern, collect, and make available datasets. We work with a variety of technology providers, including cloud, hybrid, and on-premises solutions. We work on both the implementation of new solutions and working on existing or partly implemented solutions. We similarly can perform data cleaning and enrichment activities.
  4. 4. Just some of over 60 strong team Marat Khakimov Employee #1 has worked on and overseen multiple complex master data management system implementations these 15 years. Previous to that he had 15 years experience as a Java developer. He holds numerous certifications from Oracle, IBM, Coursera, and edX. He has a passion for robotics Maria Novokhatskaya Part-engineer, part-consultant, Maria has both supported and project-managed the technical implementation of IBM’s master data management tech stack and supported workshops and audits of clients’ data processes. She came to us as an experienced SAP-consultant. Maria is a fan of yoga and an avid reader. Andrey Larionov Andrey has the experience of multiple major enterprises' efforts to improve their data maturity, particularly from the retail, insurance, and oil & gas sectors. He has written extensively on the topic of data management. Outside of work, among many interests, he plays electric guitar.
  5. 5. Partners BSSG was founder by Yury Klochko. Yury is one of the most senior data governance professionals in Russia. He is the co-editor of the Russian translation of DAMA-DMBOK's 2nd Edition and regularly speaks at business schools about data-driven companies and digital transformation. He was joined 10 years ago by Alexander Klochko, Alexey Drach, and Oleg Berezhinskiy. All three came from careers at major corporations. Marek Zaremba-Pike joined in 2020 to lead BSSG’s international expansion.
  6. 6. Why our clients choose us 1. Reputation and time on market We are proud to have such a relatively long history in data management, especially for the European market. We have successfully delivered almost 400 projects for major enterprises during that time, many with multi-million dollar budgets. We are partners to major IT vendors. 2. Exclusive focus on data management We are not an IT agency that does data management nor a management consultancy that does some data projects. We are entirely focussed on data management. This focus has allowed us to develop the depth of expertise we have on the topic. 3. Size and experience of the team Experienced data management professionals are still rare. We take the effort to train and invest in our now over 60 talented individuals to create that talent. The size of our teams allows our clients the option to call on support on a project basis. 4. Cost advantage vs in-house Many clients are still only just becoming familiar with the role and office of Chief Data Officer. And so, even if they have a CDO, their team is small or non-existent. On the more technical side, many vendors of leading MDM systems are unable to fully support the implementation and integration of their systems. That’s where we come in.
  7. 7. Data Management Consulting: Case Studies As a result of growth and international expansion, Motul found that its data management practices were now preventing further development. We undertook a full assessment of all their global data management practices, policies, models, and systems across two domains (Product and Customer). We then developed new data models to allow for (1) enrichment and (2) also integration between their e-commerce platform and other systems. We developed new practices, including naming conventions, where data was entered, and bringing barcodes in line with GS1 standards. The Central Bank of the Russian Federation needed to establish a clear strategy for harmonising data reporting standards with international standards. The Central Bank needed a detailed assessment both of the practices both of those banks maintaining dual reports and those that had already sought to harmonise reports into one. They also sought guidance on DAMA and CMMI’s data maturity assessments and our input into a cost benefit analysis of developing a Russia specific maturity assessment.
  8. 8. Data Engineering Projects: Case Studies P&G We built a full-cycle MDM system for Procter & Gamble Eastern Europe LLC. We developed the system interfaces for integration with the global corporate systems, including SAP ERP and Oracle Reference Data Server. The system included modules for conducting the main local P&G business processes: pricing management, direct delivery, planning the launch of new products, and promotional packages. X5 Х5 Retail Group is Central and Eastern Europe’s largest retailer. We built a single NSI management system based on IBM’s InfoSphere Master Data Management and integrated it with corporate information systems. This was IBM’s largest implementation of its Cloud Pak for Data. We also implemented data management and consolidation schemes for two main domains (Materials and Company Objects) and developed corporate classifiers (hierarchy levels, types of goods, brands and non-commercial goods).
  9. 9. Experienced in Multi-Vendor Environments And many, many more!
  10. 10. Thought Leadership WE OVERSAW AND EDITED THE TRANSLATION OF DAMA’S DMBOK 2 INTO RUSSIAN.
  11. 11. Four Stages As a further example of our thought leadership, at BSSG, we have developed a framework for understanding the direct connection between data and a company’s business model. We identify companies as belonging to one of four different stages. Companies compete in radically different ways depending on what stage they are at. This framework presents a hierarchy with those competing based on the solely on strengths of their people at the bottom and those whose competitive advantage lies in their models, as well as their people, processes, and data. We see our broader mission as helping companies move from process-driven to data-driven companies.
