We, as the German team, are going to share the information how the Elbe
Sandstone Mountains occurred.The most famous geographical
formation in Saxony and one of the most famous geographical formations in
Germany are the Elbe Sandstone Mountains, around the River “Elbe”, near
the german-czech border.The Mountains include a complex fauna of ferns
and mosses, because the climatically conditions vary because on the
different high levels, humidity and even the locations their selves.
3. The Elbe Sandstone Mountains formed
when the African continental plate
pressed towards the Eurasian plate.
The pressure that formed the Alps also
caused that the massive sandstone
plain began to break and a few smaller
parts have been pushed upwards.
The weathering started to cut deep
valleys into
the soft, formable
sandstone. Today, they are many cliffs
and impressing rocks and outstanding
formations.

4. The sandstone was used for many buildings,
mainly in the near city of Dresden like the
Zwinger and the Dresden Frauenkirche.
The yellow stone has been turned grey and
black because of the acid rain.

some very great hiking
spots because of the
interesting levels and
the untouched nature,
climbing spots and
viewing points. The
most famous point in
the Elbe Sandstone
Mountains is the BasteiBridge.
